What could be the quintessential Yacht Rock tune. The Steely Doobies, as led by Michael McD.

VHM Ian Gomm, still one of my fave singles from that glorious early-New Wave period.  Can Bram Tchaikovsky or the Records be in store?

I'd love to hear either, particularly if they're taking the place of a Supertramp song.

(*sigh*) Guess Dave's just in a cheezy/schlocky mood this week.

Rod, as they say, If you have to ask...

But at least we were spared Steve Dahl. Great description of his Comiskey Park debacle in the history-of-disco book I'm reading.

AMG lists three women as vocalists among the credits: Diana Lee, Myrna Matthews, and Marti McCall.

Don't know anything about any of them.

Least necessary of set: Gone Hollywood, Supertramp.

At least we're not having kippers for breakfast or being logical.

Sounds like the Ian Gomm tune may be as close as we get to New Wave today.

I'd love to hear some Ian Hunter--Just Another Night would rock, or even Bastard.

there's people out there turning music into "Gold" -- by getting Stevie & Lindsay to sing backup on their album.  But John Stewart still sounds like Harry Chapin.

Spoke too soon! T.Heads covering Rev Al.  I kinda consider the Tim Curry to be in the New Wave ballpark.

Rod the Bod and Supertramp notwithstanding, this was a vast improvement over yesterday.

Sorta kinda, but I think that's due to when it was released more than any stylistic similarity. I'd file it more under glam than New Wave.

I missed the exchange with whatever Foghead won the contest, but good on Annalisa for offering the Records' Starry Eyes as one of the bonus cuts, and good on the foghead for picking it.

Damn, I missed it due to a phone call -- but kudos Annalisa (Dave's NEVER played it).  A brilliant single.

This and yesterday's '71 were, for me, the only truly worthy sets of the week; Motown's fine but it was very much a Monday-on-autopilot kinda set.  Woke up at the tail end of Motown this morning; snoozed thru '81 and heard most of '71 & '79.  When '93 came on I switched to KPIG.

'79 was OK but the '71 set would of bored me to tears if I listened to it. Reading the set, I would turned off the radio early during the set. Then again I hate early 70's music for the most part.
