finally someone does a Winter set.
Steve Miller, "Wintertime " to start.
hoping for "Sometimes in Winter" and "Wintetime Love" but I'll have to miss part of this for a meeting, dammit.
-
something wintry from Tori Amos.
and (of course!) S&G's "Hazy Shade of..." BOS.
-
Eurythmics fine version of "Winter Wonderland", BOS2
-
BoDeans, "Cold Winter's Day" too.
Kudos to Ginger, wonderful stuff.
BS&T and the Doors were part of a medley, but I'm still hoping for "Marshmallow World".
-
Guess I missed the Stones' Winter--dammit.
But it appears Colorado got nailed last night--Denver Int'l (it's not called Stapleton anymore, is it?) got two feet--they're closed pretty much all day. That'll mess up a bunch of holiday travel.

nope -- here it is! BOS3

Oh, she meant it was starting off the next set--woo hoo! Thanks, Ginger!
Easy choice for BOS!

I'd often hoped Dave would do a Winter set, as a counterpart to his annual Summer 10@10, but the "Xmas Card" always took precendence. But since there's no Xmas set this year, this is especially welcome (not to mention non-denominational!).

Stapleton is long gone (praise be unto God), and the new airport is really very nice.
Seattle got nailed last Thursday with high winds (~70mph) & heavy rains, which knocked down many a tree and with them many a power line. Some people were still without power last night when I was leaving. We had to switch hotels because, as they told me, "We have some rooms with lights but no heat and some rooms with heat but no lights."

Followed by a Simpsons clip. Perfect timing Ginger!
-
"albinos virtually invisible..."
ROTFL! BOS4 Simpsons.
dunno who this is singin' about snow comin' out of his radio, but I like it -- BOS5.
-
BOS2 Lowell George, Six Feet of Snow. Or is this Feat?
Just checked--it's Feat, from the posthumous Down On the Farm.
-
I assume this is from Sarah McLaughlin's new Xmas CD. Who did this originally? -- I know I've heard the song before.
-
ah, optimism!
Don't expect that thaw until April, Ginger. LOL!
-
Ahhhhhhh--it's the Beatles (yay) finishing off the set oh so tastefully with Here Comes The Sun.
No diss to Bob or Rob (who I've never actually heard--7am is just too damn early for me) but more than the rest of the second gen of 10@10 jocks (and sometimes even more than DM), Ginger gets it. Totally. Great songs, great variety, nice segues, good soundbites.

Gordon Lightfoot wrote it, assume he did the original as well. (Ginger's reading your mind. And it pays to have an Allmusic browser open for quick answers to these things.)

She totally rules, it's true, but you owe it to yourself to check out Rob, maybe on an evening replay. His late-'70s sets are (musically, anyway) quite amazing. Check today's for an example.

One song I hoped Ginger might dig up this morning is Jesse Winchester's "Snow", from the early '70s -- haven't heard it in decades, tho' it was a NY FM staple every winter back in the day.
I was tuning in the six o'clock news cast
And the weather man mentioned snow
As soon as I heard that four-letter word
I was making my plans to go
If I was a bird I would fly back South
A bear I would go to sleep
Anything rather than hang around here
When the snow starts getting deep
Now you know what they say about snow flakes
How there ain't no two the same
Well, all them flakes look alike to me
Every one is a dirty shame
My ears are cold
My feet are cold
Bermuda stays on my mind
And I'm here to say that if winter comes
Then spring is a ways behind
I don't have no heavy hip boots
I don't have no furry hat
I don't have no long-john underwear
No layer of protective fat
I'd take a plane right to sunny Spain
Oh, but I don't have the dough
But I'd build a bridge and I'd walk there
To get away from all that snow
Oh, I'd build a bridge and walk there
To get away from all that snow
