I think so--the one we heard today doesn't sound like what I'm used to hearing.
Trivia: what's the connection between the first and second songs of the set?
-
but it's "nineteen seventy-sevennnnnn!"
-
BXOS - Doobies!
Dude, it's prog doobie fusion rock! But what's the X for?
X is for Xylophone.
Didn't you play with blocks as a small child???

Best Xylophone of Set?
VHM Stevie & FMac: "Well here you goat again..." "Like a heart-bleat drives you mad..."

Sure, but I didn't play with lettered blocks until I had kids
Anyway, I reckon that's a vibraphone (or possibly marimba), not a xylophone.

two xylo-phones in the same group!
you play glockenspiel, i'll play drums

Speaking of two versions of songs...here's my preferred Strawberry Letter.
-
BOS for the superior remake of "Strawberry Letter 23". I dig my Brothers Johnson! (But don't tell him about it.)
-
"is it cool? is it cool?
yeah, it's cool.

Poor Shuggie -- no wonder he went crazy.

All right, Mr. Kettle  Oops, I mean Mr. Pot. I'm Mr. Kettle.

Oh yeah! Crawler! A Narada, perhaps?
-
Oh yeah! Crawler! A Narada, perhaps?
not to me -- this got plenty of NYC FM play at the time
BTW, the Brother's Johnson is usually larger than the white man's.
-

Not if you grew up in the midwest. This is a bonafide KSHE Classic. Probably a WDRV classic, too.
I think I have a 70's mix somewhere in which SL23 & SCS are back-to-back, just like in this set.

I'm just curious how big Dave's brother's is, that he digs it so much.
Actually, no I'm not. Forget I said anything.
-
Rita Moreno, talking about War and Piss.
-
How would jou like a high heel in your ham hock!?
-
kermit was jon stewart before jon stewart was cool!
-
How would jou like a high heel in your ham hock!?
I'd rather have the Brother's Johnson in my ham hock. OK, that was TMI...
BOS2 Bee Gees!!

And just when we need to veer sharply away from a slippery homoerotic slope...we get "How Deep Is Your Love".

even jimmy's in together with you guys, talking about his long underwear. hmmm...i wouldn't mind seeing amy's long underwear.
-
speaking of TMI, who wants to think about Jimmy Carter's underwear?
-
Is this song about Amy Carter?
Definite BOS2 for Heart -- I already voted for Crawler.
-
BOS3 Heart, the little-heard "Little Queen". Nice deep track action!
-
Another BOS for little-heard Heart, "Little Queen".
I'd say that this was a great song for Mike just now, but he's proving to be a big ol' queen, not a little one.

nobody knows her melancholy mind

Little-heard JINX!
-
Another BOS for little-heard Heart, "Little Queen".
I'd say that this was a great song for Mike just now, but he's proving to be a big ol' queen, not a little one.

a typical reaction to have after your brief homoerotic encounter. ;)

They've got a kind of Tubular Bells thing going there.

Most of this set has been pretty deep stuff, Fleetwood Mac notwithstanding.

I was just saying the other day how much I used to like UFO.
This is one of the all-time most-requested songs on The Bone, but 90% of the Boneheads think it's called "Misty Green and Blue".

Not quite getting the Forbert comparison, but the Rundgren comparison has been brought up before.
BOS of all BOSs--Anita Bryant getting nailed with a pie.

Have any of y'all seen or played a game called "Guitar Hero"? Godzilla is one of the tracks that you get to play along with on a guitar-shaped controller that you hold down frets and strum with.
It's a helluva lot of fun.

Great segue from Anita Bryant into Godzilla, imho.

We'll see--I'm getting a pretty big backlog of stuff to be burned to disc.

Just tuned back in in the middle of Manfred Mann's Blinded By the Light--that wasn't the bonus, was it? I thought that was '76, so hoping not.
ETA: and this is the largest number of posts we've had during the actual first-run set in a good long while.

Nope here we go right now.
ETA: tried to call in but the lines were jammed as soon as Annalisa started hinting about the question.

sex sells!
-
rare case of the bonus being a bigger Katrina than anything in the set: "Sir Duke". I'm off to VIP.
-
Sir Duke is not only the bonus track, it is also the answer to one of the Real People Quiz-a-palooza items that y'all didn't get.
-
Trivia: what's the connection between the first and second songs of the set?
Does no one care what the connection between the Elvis and Doobies tracks is? Or has that one been around the track a few times already?

Nope, not Roy Bittan.
John McFee was the pedal-steel player in Clover, the Marin County band that moved to London and backed EC on My Aim is True--and he's featured prominently on Radio Sweetheart. McFee would later return to the States and join the Doobie Brothers, although not until after Livin' On the Fault Line.
Clover would later morph into Huey Lewis and the News, featuring several members of that band including Huey hisself (although he's not on MAIT, iirc).

Clover's own LP of either '77 or '78 got some NY airplay, mostly for a delightful power-poppy remake of Rick Nelson's "Travelin' Man".
