Title: 28 Nov 2006: 1981
Post by: RGMike on November 28, 2006, 10:03:51 AM
happy 25th to that Foghead.

"Hold on Tight", indeed...

"when you need a shoulder to cry on
when you get so sick of try-on"

nice rhyming skillz, Mr Lynne. No wonder he sang half of it in French.

Time Out of Mind is one of those tunes I associate more with 80 than 81, but I guess it goes for either 80 or 81--I remember hearing it a lot around the time Lennon was murdered.

So who's this doing song #3? I don't think I've ever heard it before.

I like "Tom Sawyer".  I like "Limelight" better, but you can't have everything.

No clue on song 3.

Well, not their finest hour, certainly. But Waylon Jennings & Jessie Colter did a nice version of this, iirc.

And here's the second, which I also heard yesterday on BCO, I think: U2, I Fall Down.

"he's got his hand in the air with the other cunts"

BOS3 Police for that line alone.  Kudos to Dave for not censoring it.

Me three, but I figured one of you guys would call that out. Nice to know they're slipping stuff like that by occasionally.

So Dave said he blew it, but how exactly did he blow it? Was Tom Sawyer from 82 or something?

No, actually, I'm on-line.  But I started typing as soon as the song started, and waited to see if Dave bleeped it.

Actually, the Pretenders tune is (technically) from '80, but Dave didn't say that.

I think he just meant that Rush should have won BOS, but then he played the Pretenders which overcame the Rush voters.  Confusing phraseology to say the least.

I didn't hear the set (I'm a night owl and was asleep at 10AM, maybe I'll check the 10PM version). I've heard the name Joan Armatrading a lot back then but never heard any of her music. Maybe it's because it never hit the top 40 (when I listened to Casey Kasem's show).

BTW, shouldn't the topic title be dated the 28th and not the 26th? The 26th was Sunday.

Even though I had read these comments I was still taken aback when the song came on to realize that this was Joan Armatrading.  I might have to check out this whole album.

Wow, a set with Rush in it and no Rush bashing from Mike or anyone else.

Say what you want, but this is a great song in concert.  BOS #2 from me.

BOS #3 Pretenders, but kinda too bad Dave played the wrong album.  I just got Pretenders II, at the Tower liquidation sale because it has a bonus second disc of live material recorded on their last US tour before Honeyman-Scott & Farndon OD'd.  Good stuff.

And nothing technical about saying "Private Life" belongs in a 1980 set, that album came out in Jan of '80 & neither song nor LP were still on the charts in '81.
