Halloween set coming up tomorrow!
And Dave is back to plugging the beef in the McD's commercial.
Dreaming of Monday--a logical beginning.
ETA:
TANC: Last night while carving pumpkins, Sarah & I listened to disc 2 of the Jam box. This song wasn't on it, but now I feel a Jam binge coming on....
-
actually, most folks are probably wishing it wasn't Monday...
BOS the Jam... and now it's lesser tho' not unpleasant Moodies.

Really? Out here, The Voice got more airplay than Gemini Dream, the other single off this album.
Really digging the multi-synth parts from Patrick Moraz on this tune. Lots of nifty stereo panning effects and such.

To me, it's a bit of a retread of earlier, better MBs songs. Still better than their nadir, that rip-off of "Running On Empty" whose title escapes me at the moment.

Enjoying the full Santana experience here. Sounds like two Santana songs with a Journey song wedged in between, for obvious reasons.
-
And as if to illustrate the early-'80s discussion SFGuy & I just had in Friday's thread... here's the Cars!
-
Sorry I missed the Jam of course, but it's not uncommon to hear it from Dave. Haven't heard Santana's "searchin'" for a while, VHM for now, hoping Dave has somehting better yet to come.

I'm pondering your "Running on Empty" rip comment. I can't think of anything that sounds like that. Any clues?

Actually I alwasy think of this as a Russ Ballard tune using Santana (the group) as a high profile bunch of session guys. Likewise for "Winning".

BOS Pretenders with the big band sound.

It's an early-'80s Moodies song. If you heard it, you'd know exactly what I mean.
BOS2 Pretenders!

Ditto. I remember thinking at the time that this was a weird choice for a single (it stiffed, IIRC), but man, did it cook live. They came thru here in late August of 81, sold out two Warfield shows in a heartbeat. Came back the following February, sold out Kaiser Aud, and a few months after that half the band was dead.
-
"Pow! right between the eyes!"
How Dave loves his little Katrinas.
-
This set is starting to replicate a lot of my concert-going from the summer of 81 (except for the Cars and the Jam). If we hear El-Rayo X that will seal the deal.
-
"over me
over you
over everybody"
I'm bailing in a few, I'm off to be "injected, inspected, detected and selected" as Arlo once said.

Oh my god, Mike's been drafted!!! :D
Well, no sooner said than done...here's Mr. Dave.

Seeled!

BOS #3 U2 "Gloria"
-
I was hoping for one more BOS before I go, but all I can muster is a VHM for U2. Talk at ya later!
-
Oy, WOS for "Bette Davis Eyes". And did he say it was #1 for the year? No wonder I always thought the 80s sucked.
-
Oy, WOS for "Bette Davis Eyes".
I know we've dissected the inane lyrics of this one before, but I just gotta reiterate:
"She'll unheeze you"?!?!?!

Yeah, but if it weren't for Kim Carnes, Mark Knopfler woulda been one couplet short in "Industrial Disease" a few months later.

"Unease", doncha know.

isn't it "unease"? she sings so breathily there are extra H's in nearly every sentence.
ETA: which is still inane, and but not actually utter nonsense.

Hmm. Gotta think about what this means.
ETA: Damn. Two times in a row I've sent a message to Dave and gotten no response. Didn't even mention my vote for the Pretenders. (It was late...but still during Kim's epic.)
ETAA: Ahh, Bette Davis kneeeeees.

Yeah, that finally occurred to me after a few minutes of pondering, but it sure doesn't sound like that--and she sings it that way at least three times.
And I'm still not convinced "unease" is a verb.

jackie deshannon says:
Bette Davis Eyes
Donna Weiss/Jackie De Shannon
Her hair is Harlow gold
Her lips a sweet surprise
Her hands are never cold
She's got Bette Davis eyes
She'll turn the music on you
You won't have to think twice
She's pure as New York snow
She got Bette Davis eyes
And she'll tease you
She'll unease you
All the better just to please you
She's precocious and she knows
Just what it takes to make a pro blush
She got Greta Garbo stand off sighs
She's got Bette Davis eyes
She'll let you take her home
It whets her appetite
She'll lay you on her throne
She got Bette Davis eyes
She'll take a tumble on you
Roll you like you were dice
Until you come up blue
She's got Bette Davis eyes
She'll expose you
When she snooze you
Off your feet with the crumbs she trows you
She's ferocious and she knows
Just what it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy
She's got Bette Davis eyes
And she'll tease you
She'll unease you
All the better just to please you
She's precocious and she knows
Just what it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy
She's got Bette Davis eyes
She'll tease you
She'll unease you
Just to please you
She's got Bette Davis eyes
She'll expose you
When she snooze you
She knows you
She's got Bette Davis eyes
but you're right - "unease" is not a verb.

ha! i just noticed the obvious typos in the lyrics i posted. but a google search for the correct lyrics yielded even funnier lines like, "when she snows you." so i'll just leave it as it is.

For years I thought "Make a pro blush" was "Make a crow blush" (I figured, crows being black, it would be pretty hard to make one blush; therefore she was doing the impossible).

And as if to illustrate the early-'80s discussion SFGuy & I just had in Friday's thread... here's the Cars!
Worst forced rhyme of set: "Treach-er-ESS"

And in a set that also contains Betty Davis Eyes, that's no small accomplishment.
I'm feeling totally unheezed right now...

I actually like the song. I don't think the 80's music sucked. (Late 80's is another story) I hate 70's music. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
