Title: 19 Oct 2006--it's...1972!!!
Post by: urth on October 19, 2006, 09:59:08 AM
Guessing 70s today. And likely we hear 1968 tomorrow, just so Dave can play his "Tigers RAH" clip--if the Cards win tonight, it's a lock.

ETA: Right on the first one.  and Telegram Sam-- a bustout if I dare say...

I was off a little, but not that far off!

Trashmen didn't get my trash today
Oh, why? Because they want more pay
Buses on strike want a raise in fare
So they can help pollute the air

But that's what makes the world go `round
The up and down, the carousel
   Changing people, they'll go around
   Go underground, young man
People make the world go `round

Wall Street  losin' dough on ev'ry share
They're blaming it on longer hair
Big men smokin' in their easy chairs
On a fat cigar without a care

But that's what makes the world go `round
The up and down, the carousel
   Changing people, they'll go around
   Go underground, young man
People make the world go `round

<instrumental>

But that's what makes the world go `round
The up and down, the carousel
   Changing people, they'll go around
   Go underground, young man
People make the world go `round

People make the world go `round
People make the world go `round
People make the world go `round
FADE
People make the world go `round

ETA:
Prosecutor: Something must be done! War would mean a prohibitive increase in our taxes.
Chicolini: Hey, I got an uncle lives in Taxes.
Prosecutor: No, I'm talking about Taxes - Money, Dollars!
Chicolini: Dollars! There's-a where my uncle lives! Dollars, Taxes!
(this exchange must have had a lasting impact on young Stevie Miller).

[reporting on shadowing Firefly]
Chicolini: Monday we watch-a Firefly's house, but he no come he wasn't home. Tuesday we go to the ball game, but he fool us: he no show up. Wednesday HE go to the ball game, but we fool HIM, WE no show up. Thursday it was a double-header nobody show up. Friday it rained all day, there was no ball game, so we stayed home, we listen to it over the radio.

Yep, Chico is where I got it.  That's some of my favorite comedy schtick.  Especially the contract scene in Night at the Opera.

Damn, sorry I missed this one.  BOS to Elton, my favorite song of his, and it gives me an excuse to ask: Have any of you ever heard the covers he recorded in 1969-70 for budget comps?  Wildly improbable stuff like "Yellow River," "United We Stand," and "To Be Young, Gifted and Black" (!!!) ?  I've seen the tracks compiled on CD but have always been afraid to buy.

well, there's a bunch of different versions of that comp on Amazon, one's as cheap as 3 bucks.

Tempting -- "Lady D'Arbanville" and "My Baby Loves Lovin'" are really making me consider.

He's just like Gene Simmons: He realized one day that it's more lucrative to treat music as a business than as a passion, and changed the game from there.

Which isn't to say that I wouldn't love to hear his comeback hit "Poison" in a 1989 set.
