Any ideas on what Dave is planning?? Any suggestions for the set?? I believe this is the only one for the year.

Dave's on vacation this week... we'll either get a "classic" HFH set from the past, or they'll just ignore Fri the 13th altogether.

I'm betting on a "classic" HFH. But if Dave and co. had planned ahead, they could have auctioned off the rights to generate a HFH setlist for the day and raised beaucoup bucks.
-
If they do a "classic' hits from hell, I'm hoping for the cover hits from hell. I get a kick out of hearing Pat Boone do his awful version of Enter Sandman.
-
A commercial on KFOG said Friday is a "Mystery Year". Whomever is in charge feel free to switch the top title of this topic to whatever year is chosen (if a year is chosen).

Color me genuinely disappointed. I hope it'll at least be in the 1967-1975 range . . .

Not to get your hopes up, but they often run that "mystery year" promo as a sort of generic, we-didn't-have-a-set-specific-promo-handy sorta thing. So HFH is still possible.
-
And Annalisa just said "a special 10@10"--consider my hopes officially raised.

She has said that every day this week. And whenever she subs for Dave, actually. I don't know why she does it, but she does.

I think that's her tongue in cheek way of saying it's a rerun.

Neil ain't no HFH. What did Dave say? I missed it.
-
And it turns out to be just what Gaz heard: a "mystery year" set. 1970? 71? Can't complain about leading off with Neil's "When You Dance I Can Really Love." Is this from After the Goldrush?
ETA: Checked AMG--it is from Goldrush, released August `70.
-

this should be 1970, unless this was a single in early '71.
-
After The Gold Rush = 1970.
-
Freda seals the deal: 1970

It peaked at #93 in 1971 apparently.

Major bummer.... I was really pumped up for HFH
-
Freda seals the deal: 1970
Yup! Gonna have to add this to my personal Top 40 list, this has got to be one of the top #3 songs ever.
-
BOS Band of Gold.
-
Neil ain't no HFH. What did Dave say? I missed it.
Oh, and I think all that he said was that this was a "year of mystery".
-
BOS: Joni Mitchell (one of my favorite songs of all time).
No HFH, but a pretty great year anyway, so far...
-
I was looking at the "Band of Gold" lyrics over on our Brazilian top 40 site, and thought it was amazing, just in the 'C' section, how many great songs there were this year (so I just had to share):
Call Me - Aretha Franklin (#13)
Can't Stop Loving You - Tom Jones (#25)
Candida - Dawn (#3)
Cecilia - Simon & Garfunkel (#4)
Celebrate - Three Dog Night (#15)
Check Out Your Mind - The Impressions (#28)
Closer to Home - Grand Funk Railroad (#22)
Come And Get It - Badfinger (#7)
Come Running - Van Morrison (#39)
Come Saturday Morning - The Sandpipers (#17)
Cracklin' Rosie - Neil Diamond (#1)
Cry Me A River - Joe Cocker (#11)
-
VHM Elton, still wish Dave would play Where To Now, St. Peter? more often? (I think we have heard it once.)
(Btw, I took the liberty of correcting the date in the subject line for the thread.)

Amazing that it only got to #3 -- it was #1 locally in NYC for a month. I'll have to get out my charts tonite to see what kept it out of the top slot.
BOS EJ, "Take Me to The Pilot"
I always thought "thru a glass eye, your throne is the one danger zone" was "thru a glass eye you're thrown".
-
BOS for Elton. No idea what this song is about, but it rocks. And I sang it in a one-off band for a company party at Acuson many years ago. We were celebrating the pilot manufacturing run for the Sequoia ultrasound machine. Good times. (I have a feeling I've made this same post before, more or less. Except I didn't put this part in the first time.)
-
Damn fine cup of coffee, I mean, set. Always dig Traffic.
-
BOS2: Traffic
It's funny how songs can just take you back in time (I remember bringing this album on a cassette tape on a family vacation to Baja California way back when, and then playing Glad over and over and over...)
-
hey either SF Guy or Urth needs to edit the topic heading, which currently reads 1971.
-
Except for Monday's '88 set, every other "classic" year this week arrived exactly 3 weeks after its previous appearance. (You have to go back to late Aug for 1988.)
-
BOS2 Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd St Rhythm Band (wow, that's a mouthful!), "Express Yo'self"
-
"It's not what you're doin' when you're doin' what you're doin', it's what you look like when you're doin' what it looks like you're doin'." Good stuff.
-

I think I just got a contact high.

"It's not what you're doin' when you're doin' what you're doin', it's what you look like when you're doin' what it looks like you're doin'."
close enough

Didn't think it was exactly right, but I worked at it to get as close as I did. Pretty obscure Steppenwolf song here. (Zat who it is? Santanawolf?)
ETA: Now I'm thinking it's just plain Santana. But I've never heard it before.

Doesn't sound like Mr Kay on lead to me, but I've no idea who it otherwise might be.

Yes, that was Santana's debut album.

More Cowbell!!!
BOS3 "Mississippi Queen"

Sounds like Santana when they were half of Journey to me. Or rather, Santana when Greg Rolie and Neal Schon were in the band.

which belongs in a '69 set, technically, tho' I s'pose it was on the charts thruout 1970.
BOS4 Spinners, one of the great soul singles from a period just swimming in 'em.
-
It's A Shame that there probably won't be a ten-way tie for BOS.
-
Another VHM for the Spinners. Not a clinker in the whole set.

It's-a GOTS to be a shame!

Yikes!!! My bad....
-
er, Dave... it's "When You Dance I Can Really Love". Not "You". Minus 5 points!
-
Jayhawks on KPIG. Joe Bob says check it out twice.

Oops, it was on Abraxas, not Santana. So '70 is correct. And it's a Gregg Rolie composition as well.

Damn, sorry to miss it. What song?

I can never get KPIG's player to work.
This week Comcast added a bunch of local FM stations to the Digital Music Channel lineup on my cable system. Here's hoping they add KPIG at some point (they have several South Bay stations, like KRTY, and a couple stations from the North, tho' not KRSH).
-
Hmmm. I can listen to KPIG, RadioParadise, KCDX and KFOG on WinAmp. No extra players necessary. What are you using?
KPIG stream is this: http://205.188.215.232:8020/
KCDX: mms://dwar.wm.llnwd.net/dwar_kcdxfm

Mark - some old work humor - Chris Lorch and I used to sing this song as "When you SADJ I can really love." We had quite a few Schwab variants on classic-rock tunes, though damn if I can remember any of the others.

I have Windows Media Player at work. Every other station works for me but KPIG will not.

I just put the URL for KPIG into the "open stream" window in my iTunes and it fired right off--George Harrison's Living in the Material World. Excellent! Thanks, Dave! Squeal, pig!!
-
That's swell!
-
Tried plugging the KRSH stream into iTunes as well, but no luck. I guess it's WMP only, so I'll just go with their player for the time being. No big.

There will not be a possible Hits from Hell set until next April.
