The first time Dave played "My Perogative", it was great -- we hoped it meant Dave was actually discovering New Jack Swing. But as it's the only NJS song he ever plays...

song 2: Midnite Katrina, "Trinas are Burning"

So far nothing much to recommend this set at all. Now we get what my gut tells me is another katrina--and a pretty mediocre song in any case--Winwood's Roll With It.

Where's that Kink link?

AAAACK! Crapton's beer-commercial re-do of "After Midnight"

But Dave's ability to dig up relevant-to-the-present-day newsclips remains remarkable.

"Only a Memory" -- but my memory of '88 is more interesting than this painfully weak set.

Now this ain't so bad--Smithereens' Only a Memory into Steve Earle's Copperhead Road.

Nothing I haven't heard before, but at least heading the right direction.

I bow to no one in my admiration for "Copperhead" -- a brilliant track from a brilliant LP. But it's just as much a Katrina as anything else so far.

barely-BOS-by-default: George, when he was (still) fab.

But Jeez, "Domino Dancing", "Love Overboard", "Goin' Back to Cali", "I Should Be So Lucky"... the list is endless. Was Dave that out-of-touch with pop in 1988?

I tried to catch it, but all I got was "When We Was Fab" which is a guilty displeasure for me.  It's kind of weird, these days most of George's contributions are high on my list of favorite Beatles songs, and I still like his ealrier work, but I find anything from his last decade or so just totally uninspiring.

Finally! "Crash", a real BOS I can get behind!

Too little too late, tho'.

yeesh, "It's Money That Matters".

This is one PM replay I won't be catching. Thank god the Simpsons are on at 10.

"Slow Turning", bangin' like-a Charlie Watts.

This was truly one of Dave's most uninspired sets in ages.

That sounded a lot better on Monday in the KINK set.

I'll give the Hiatt tune a VHM, both for the Charlie Watts line and the fact that there's some nice slide work from Sonny Landreth in the backing track.

Earle got my BOS though. Not a nugget worthy of the name in this set.

Not to be contrary, but I'd call it a push at best. Dave's set was nothing but retreads, but I looked at the KINK list and there's nothing on there that makes me think, "Ooo, that's cool-wish I'd heard that."

How far back has KINK gone in the month or so we've been tuning them in?

I've seen a '69 set on their website within the past 2 months; but considering they go as recent as 2001 and do "theme days" twice a week, I'm guessing '69 sets ain't too frequent.

I think it's a pretty weak set. BOS to me is Mr. Whitney Houston (just so I could call Bobby Brown, Mr. Whitney Houston) leading off the set.
