Into the 90s for the first time in what, two months--but barely.
-
our long '90-less streak ends. Time for KINK Theme Day!
-
I'll give John Farnham a BOS vote, but I think I'll concentrate on the Kink today.

Unless Dave is doing an all Aussie 1990 set, that is.
-
Extrem-ell-ly dangerous. I bet she's got what it takes to make a pro blush, too. Crummy song.
-
Awful quiet here, which is too bad since "Black Velvet" is a great song.

sorry, we're doing the KINK-y thing. I'm allergic to '90s sets, as a general rule.

What do you do when doing the KINK-y thing? Are there comments for that too, or are you just listening?

Do you know the lyrics enough to say what this song is about? I never paid much attention until I heard it this week on KFox's A-Z & Greg Kihn pointed it out.

We're in the Regional 10@10's thread.

It's supposed to be about Elvis, no?

Yeah, don't know how I could have missed it over the years, the lyrics really don't leave room for any doubt:
Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell
Jimmy Rogers on the victrola up high
Mama's dancing with baby on her shoulder
The Sun is setting like molasses in the sky.
The boy could sing, knew how to move, everything.
Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for.
CHORUS:
Black velvet and that little boy smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring you to your knees
Black velvet if you please.
Up in Memphis the music's like a heat wave
White lightning, bound to drive you wild.
Mama's baby's in the heart of every school girl
"Love me tender" leaves 'em cryin' in the aisle
The way he moved, it was a sin, so sweet and true.
Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for.
CHORUS:
Every word of every song that he sang was for you.
In a flash he was gone, it happened so soon,
What could you do?
CHORUS:
repeat

BONUS TRACK: Buckwheat Zydeco - Route 66
as so often happens, the Bonus is a gazillion times more interesting. Pretty by-the-numbers '90 -- how many of those are officially Katrinas? I'm guessing they've all been played before, with the Del Amitri, the Oils, and especially the Idol at the top of the frequency chart.

Actually Dave missed the most egregious Katrinas, and neither the Roxette nor the Oils were in my Db (of course a different song on The Oils album is near the top of this list, so it's a close cousin), and both John Farnham & Alannah Myles had only one previous appearance. But that being said I'd give this set no better grade than a C-, and am glad I spent my time with Inessa today.
