Title: Happy Birthday Madge
Post by: mshray on August 16, 2006, 08:41:06 AM
as noted on the WDRV thread, Madonna is 48 today & Elvis has been dead for 29 years.  I was skimming the IMDb births/deaths/marriages page, and Aug 16 is loaded.  Madonna got married on her birthday to Sean Penn, and two years earlier Paul Simon had married Princess Leia Carrie Fischer.

Among the other birthdays you've got Steve Carrell, Angela Bassett (twins with Madge), Timothy Hutton & Tim Fariss of INXS.  Femme fatales Julie Newmar & Leslie Anne Warren.  Oakland native Robert Culp, tennis great Tony Trabert & Frank Gifford are all 75 today & Kathy Lee Gifford has the same birthday as her ex-husband.  That's gotta be weird.  Two key figures from the 20th century history of the Middle East, Menachim Begin & T. E. Lawrence.  And HOF Football coach Amos Alonzo Stagg.

And among the other people dying on this day, Babe Ruth, Bela Lugosi, Idi Amin, Pixar #2 guy Joe Ranfft (to whom both Cars & Corpse Bride were dedicated) & HOF sportswriter Jim Murray.

Title: Searching for Madge
Post by: ggould on August 16, 2006, 11:33:28 AM
to us older folk, Madge reminds me of the two intense jam tracks on Fleetwood Mac's "Then Play On" called Searching for Madge, and Fighting for Madge.  I have no idea why Madonna is called Madge.

Does anyone else, who's into trivia, know who the Madge is that Fleetwood Mac was searching and fighting for?  I wish I knew.
