Woohoo! Pre-emptive 10 way tie.
easy as 123

ABC Jackson 5!
Thanks for clearing that up, Geoff. I got a phone call about 10 minutes ago and didn't realize it was 10 until 10:03, grabbed my cans and heard the J5. I'm thinking "Dammit--missed the intro. Soul Patrol? 70? Motor City Revue?"
1970 is just fine by me, given the scarcity of this period this year.
-
ABC Jackson 5!
all the branches of the learnin' tree!
at the time Alex Bennett dubbed them "The Motown Archies". Boy did he turn out to be wrong.
But who's this at song #2?

Sounds like the James Gang to me, but I'm only half listening...
-
This set was already a classic on June 7, 2002, when it managed to get itself archived. "The Bomber" gets my BOS of the Week vote.
Jackson 5 - ABC
James Gang - The Bomber
Sly & the Family Stone - I Want to Take You Higher
Neil Young - Only Love Can Break Your Heart
Kinks - Lola
Spinners - It's a Shame
James Taylor - Fire and Rain
Tee Set - Ma Belle Amie
Derek & the Dominos - Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad
Beatles - The Long and Winding Road
-
But who's this at song #2?
some form of Joe Walsh. Beautiful solo.

Let me echo Gaz's sentiments--enjoy your holiday in the sun!! And have a large number of fruity, rum-laden drinks with umbrellas in our memory, ya dingbat ya!

TANC: "The Bomber" is offically a medley of "Closet Queen"/"Bolero"/"Cast Your fate..."
A closet queen, the busstop's dream, she wants to shake my hand
I don't want to be there, she decides she can
It's Apple Dan, he's just the man to pick fruit off your branches
I can't sleep, and we can't keep this cattle on my ranches
maybe her name was Lola.
BOS3 Spinners and a fab Stevie Wonder production
-
since Mark spoiled the suspense, and I have to get going, this is how the guitars sound in the multi-tracked solo:

BOS4 for Fire and Rain. This song was EVERYWHERE in 1970, at least in my little 11-year-old world.
"Suzanne, the plans they made put and end to you..."
-
BOS #n+1, "Lo-lo-lo-la Lola"
Speaking of girls-will-be-boys-and-boys-will-be-girls, I'm going to The Cafe in the Castro tonight with some out of town friends.
Some of those out of town friends and I had dinner in The City last night with his royal Beejness, Barry J. Weir Jr. He was looking & feeling well & sends his greetings. He & his improv troop are performing for the Coast Guard on Saturday at their annual event, having been invited back after last year's performance.

You betcha! But it's all been pretty damn fine.
Have fun in Hawaii.
Ack, stupid Cow Orker interupts wonderful soloing!

I just did the math, and when this set was played as a classic on June 6, 2002, it was the very first Local Music Month Friday remote broadcast.
The following was Friday the 13th, which means it was at the Winchester House & I was there. So was this first one at Dave's house with Ali & Mike? or was that later in the month?
-
VHM The Long & Winding set-closer.
-
Now THAT was a classic worthy of it's name...
-
Bonus: JB "Make it FUNKY!"
"one, two, three..."
Neckbone. Candied Yams. Smothered steak. Smothered STEAK!!!

Not Oklahoma! (What does it matter?)
Bon voyage, Rockin' Rod.
PS: Geoff's psychedelia will really come in handy if I am stoned and awake at home for the replay.
-
Thanks for the wishes. I'll be tuned in for the replay then outta here.
Just loaded Mother and Child Reunion into my iTunes. Prepping the pod for travel. God willing the airlines still allow electronics come Sunday!

That must've been later in the month, 'cause I remember Ali & I listened to the classic that day in the car on the way home, and it was Strictly Instrumental.

9. Derek & the Dominos - Why Does Love Have to Be So Sad?
There's a mad copy editor loose at KFOG--somebody cleaned up the questionable grammar in the title of WDLGTBSS!
Btw, I noticed this morning that as they're bringing the guitar duel in for a landing, Duane quotes the first few bars of Joy to the World--the Xmas carol, not the Hoyt Axton/TDN tune.
And Darryl/Geoff, I just noticed while looking at the KFOG 10@10 page that they now offer an RSS feed of the day's 10@10--any chance we could put a routine in this forum to automatically pull that day's set into the corresponding discussion topic so we don't have to remember to do it manually?
-
Of course 1970 kicked off the Saturday replays, so having been in a meeting for the past half-hour, I missed "Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad" et al. :(

I'm not quite sure, but I can give Darryl, or Rod, or anyone a dedicated directory to do things in.
