the period from today (his birthday) until 8/9 (death day) is celebrated as "Jerry Week."
Coincidentally, informed sources have basically given me the picture of the whole GD corporate entitly being non-existent, over, finis.

When Ramblin' Jack Elliott was on the Morning Show last week they asked him how old he was and he said, "My birthday is next week, same as Jerry. In six days and twenty five years I'll be a hundred."
That's how I'm gonna answer the question from now on:
"My birthday is in March, same as Michelangelo & Shaq. In five days, seven months and fifty six years I'll be a hundred."

This morning's 9:00 pop quiz was a montage of songs by 5 artists whose birthdays were/are today: Adam Duritz, Jim Carroll, Jerry, one I can't recall now, and one I didn't recognize. Unfortunately I was in the car and reached my destination (the vet's office) before they gave the answer.

I needed some web help, but this helps me remember that Robert Cray and Michael Penn were the other two:
1: Ashley Angel (O-Town) (1981)
1: Adam Duritz (Counting Crows) (1964)
1: Coolio (1963)
1: Chuck D (Public Enemy) (1960)
1: Suzi Gardner (L7) (1960)
1: Joe Elliot (Def Leppard) (1959)
1: Michael Penn (1958)
1: Robert Cray (1953)
1: Tim Bachman (Bachman-Turner Overdrive) (1951)
1: Boz Burrell (Bad Company) (1946)

I didn't realize Adam Duritz was 40+. Yikes.

Thanks Geoff--Michael Penn was the one I couldn't remember. And for some reason, I didn't place the Robert Cray tune.

Indeed. It is now "birthday month." Less than three weeks and I have the bday club request already thought out. I KNOW after special bday sets of past I said I'd never ask for a special set again. I want 1972 but haven't looked when we were last there. These are my initial thoughts:
Gilbert O’Sullivan
Al Green
Badfinger
King Harvest
The Main Ingredient
Todd Rundgren
Neil Young
Johnny Rivers
Chi Coltrane
Flack/Hathaway
The Stylistics
Steely Dan
Stones

We haven't been to 1972 for over 3 months (!), so the chances he gets there right before are maybe higher, but then again this is local music month & they are remote every Friday which means we get classics.
Maybe you wanna consider asking him to play your favorite existing 1972 set, since he has to play classics anyway. I can send you the 33 sets that are in my Db to choose from.

From the Marin I-J: Only the memories remain: Grateful Dead's recordings moved
Rather a drag, but it sounds like it might be a good move from the band's perspective. And given Rhino's reputation as an outfit that does right by the music (as I'll testify by my affinity for the assorted Nuggets and 60s and 70s soul box sets), they are probably the best folks to do it.

Nothing's quite as sure as change. And as I like to say, Rhino People are Fab People. They'll do right by the archive maintenance.

I think they're called Workingman's Dead. Doing a decent in-studio version of "Bird Song"
Jerry Week again? So soon?

at our Laguna Hospital gig tomorrow, we're all going to wear tie-dyes and sing Ripple and My Sister and My Brothers at the end in honor of Jerry. Maybe catch the end of the Jerry Day festivities at McClaren if we get back from San Jose in time.

And the Wheel comes 'round again.
Happy Jerry Week to all.
Jerry 'Week' for the uninitiated, is between Aug 1 (birthday) and Aug 9 (anniversary of death)

I saw some dudes in "Jerry Week" regalia heading over to the park at about 2:30, so you better make sure you get there with plenty of time to spare.
Here's a free joke
Q: What did the Deadhead say when he ran out of pot?
A: This band sucks! ;)
ok, that was gratuitous. Then again, gratuitous and gratuity share the same root!
have a good show game!
