But tuned in early enough to enjoy BOC "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", which I always felt & still feel is a virtually perfect album rock tune, cowbell hoopla notwithstanding.

Hopes rising, Dave just said "Stay tuned for some MAJOR time warp, and we're doin' it for Cathy's birthday."
Hopefully Cathy just turned 40!
ETA: Yippee, she was!!!! an On-This-Date set, no less!

I've alreadt prepared my birthday wish list for next month. I'll be on vacay the week before it so planning a bit early.

And hopefully she didn't request her graduation year! Which would mean '82?

This has been Dave's best week in ages. I don't usually set the alarm for 7 on Saturday, but...
"Hey Little Girl", a great OHW and a major influence (it has always seemed to me) on the Romantics' "What I Like About You"

bos#1: mr. dorsey!

Syndicate of Sound, in fact. BOS2, most certainly. Hope Geoff is within range of this one.
And BOS3 for Lee Dorsey (and Allen Toussaint behind the scenes), Workin' in a Coal Mine!

Agreed, and not too mention the entire Stray Cats catalogue.
Holy SH*T!, the original version of Working in a Coal Mine, which I've never heard before.
-
LAWD! ah am SO TIIIIIIIIIIIRED!!!
-
BOS1 and 2 to the first two tracks
I always resented Bobby Hebb's Sunny, since locally it kept Summer in the City out of the #1 slot. Hopefully we won't hear it. The first time I met John Sebasian, I gave him a t-shirt because of that.
-
"You Better Run", the Rascals and a single that I don't think even made the Top 40 (incredibly). Brilliant stuff.
-
I never heard this until after the Benetar cover

I'm guessing this is Dave's parting shot for Cathy turning 40 --

but wouldn't it be nice if we'd heard that entire Roger Miller song?

My God. My head is about to explode.

Dang me, he should have played all of "You Can't Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd!"

Fab. Fab. and again I say, Fab.
Further words fail me. I am spent. Or as Disco Tex once said, My chiffon is wet!
-
have to tune back in 45 minutes from now for the bonus track. Oh, and it's Powers in for Rosalie who was in for Annlisa all week. Maybe he'll give the caller a choice (unlike Rosalie).

A friend's soon-to-be wife walked down the aisle to it. Then they used Vince Guaraldi's "Linus and Lucy" as their recessional. Nice.
-
there's probably a good 20 minutes left on the KINK, I'm gonna check it out.

funny. i didn't even get that joke until now. damn you haters!
-
Wow, I'm sorry I missed this one. Geoff, I especially loved the album artwork decorating the thread. My co-BOS votes go to the Lovin' Spoonful (a personal favorite, and another example of a band that has both one of my all-time favorites and one of my all-time least-favorites ["Daydream"]) and to the Hollies (as my friends Dave and Rebecca consider this "their song" and made it the first song after their wedding dance, which, tastefully, was Talking Heads' "This Must Be the Place [Naive Melody]").
That's a lot of interlocking punctuation. I'll get back to work now.
-

Actually, I enjoy Stevie. But her voice is a bit goatish.
And blame it on the evil genius that is South Park. A classic episode wherein a missing goat is confused with Stevie Nicks and an international incident arises... "The terrorists have kidnapped Stevie Nicks!"

What time does the replay start, 7am PST? I'm in a meeting until 11am EST and tuned in just in time for the end of Al Green. So I missed '66 again? Rats.
-
And no Beatles. Yay. (Not really 'yay' but you know what I mean.)
I was wondering about that. Is it possible that the Fab Four weren't on the chart anywhere on the date in question? Mike, can you check your reference books?

Per Whitburn, "Paperback Writer" was at number 12 that week (on its way down). And both Rubber Soul and Yesterday & Today woulda been on the LP chart, but I guess this was strictly a Hot 100-oriented set.

this is what has always irked me about this chart thing. I felt like the Beatles liberated us from singles charts, but now the old guard is back in power!

Charts can be taken too seriously (and lawds know I do). But for "a snapshot of this date" I find them wholly appropriate, indeed, admirable.

Agreed, and in this case we're talking 1966, when FM rock radio barely existed, so the LP charts were not as reflective of youth music culture as the singles chart was. The Sound of Music sndtk was probably still Number 1 that summer...

Well, here in SF in 66, a lot of Beatles tunes were in play that weren't released as singles.
