Dave's taking suggestions, and is promising to play "Stairway to Gilligan's Island".
Not sure what prompted this set today (is it Philo Farnsworth's birthday?) but this makes 2 weeks in a row that we've gotten a Friday kinda set on Monday.

i hope we don't have to hear the "friends" theme.
and it would be swell if he closed with ned's atomic dustbin.

tv party?

tv party?
Dave plays this all the time -- in a truncated version. This is the whole thing.

i hope we don't have to hear the "friends" theme.

I'm hoping we don't get Laverne & Shirley (Making Our Dreams Come True) or the Happy Days theme--I think both charted.
ETA: And ditto for the Rockford theme, or any other one we hear regularly, for that matter.

too late!

Hey Mike, I was listening to the Underground Garage archives last week and noticed he'd done a whole show featuring music used on the Sopranos. Did you catch it? I was listening to his tribute to Hard Day's Night, but I'll have to catch the Sopranos set sometime soon.

Yes -- it was excellent. But then all his shows are a treat.

Agreed on the first two, not minding the Rockford so much, except it's probably taking the place of something else I'd rather, such as the "Theme From S.W.A.T."
-
VHM Banana Marleys, Theme from Buffalo Soldier Splits.

At least he got it out of the way early.
BOS Banana Splits theme. (I still have the Banana Splits Club official singles at home. There were a couple of other kinda cool songs that were attributed to them, no idea who wrote them or played on them.)
-
"thank you veddy much," mr. kaufman.

"thank you veddy much," mr. kaufman.
indeed BOS2 Bob James.
This is gonna be a short set. Dave must have a hot lunch date with Rrrrrrroberrrrrto.

Makin up a mess of fun

BOS Litte Roger & the Goosebumps. And his team of attorneys. :D
-
BOS Little Roger & the Goosebumps, "Stairway to Gilligan". How could Percy & Co have, like NO sense of humor?
-
If Dave is playing "Stairway to Gilligan's Island", can the Green Acres/Purple Haze spoof "Green Haze" be far behind?
-
"thank you veddy much," mr. kaufman.
indeed BOS2 Bob James.

i really need a best of bob james.
who's roberto? what happened to the guy who votes for all the wrong songs?
-
Back when this was new, the band started playing this at the Bammies, and suddenly a big video of a lawyer came on the screen, yelling stop, etc. Kinda funny at the time.
-

If only. I'm betting that one's not on Dave's radar.
-
woohoo to perry, back when he was fine!

The segue into Perry Mason theme is indeed well taken.

Wwwsshhhhttt, that went right over my head. Oh wait, now I get it. LL was in the remake movie, wasn't he?

sorry, this is still a perfect pop single for me (BOS3) -- and Dave really doesn't play this OR Happy Days all that often. Not aywhere near as often as "Rockford".

i don't know about that. but ll sampled the theme from swat in his "mama said knock you out."

Nice finish however. BOS2 to I'm the Slime. RIP, FZ.
I may be vile and pernicious but you can't look away...

wow, obscurity upon obscurity! Mark's right, he was in the movie, and I assumed that's what you were referencing too.
-
bos: slime!
You know what we need, I mean truly NEED to hear after this?
H. R. Puffinstuff!
-
BOS "I'm the Slime". Someday Dave should do 10 songs about TV, without any themes. "Watchin' TV With The Radio On", "Dirty Laundry", Nilsson's "Kojak Columbo", etc.
uh-oh, "I Love Lucy" megamix.
"Loooocy, I'm home from de Club!"
-
I'd've preferred the Wilton Place Street Band's "Disco Lucy".
Or that Jetsons remix, "Jane Stop This Crazy Thing".

well, now i'm confused. i thought it was that ll song...but maybe it wasn't. and i've just as quickly forgotten what the swat theme sounds like. i'll have to find it online to be certain.
i've never seen the film, though.

I'd still love to know what prompted this today. But it was certainly a pleasant alternative to the usual autopilot Monday set.
-
I'd forgotten Weird Al did that Lucy thing. Musta been his way of making up for "Hey Ricky".
-
I'd still love to know what prompted this today. But it was certainly a pleasant alternative to the usual autopilot Monday set.
Tim Goodman may have had something to do with it--they were talking to him about it this morning.
-
Re: what prompted the set... I was still kind of asleep, but the Morning Show did have Tim Goodman on this morning talking about the TV Critics Show down in L.A. And the 9:00 Quiz (that went until like 9:20AM because apparently no Fogheads watched TV in the 80s) was all about 80s TV:
- What was Mallory's fiance's name from Family Ties?
Nick, played by Scott Valentine
- Which member of the A-Team was a pilot?
Murdock! Howling Mad Murdock! (NOT played by Dirk Benedict! They gave 1/2 credit to the caller who said that!)
- What was the name of the cat from the Smurfs?
Azriel (sp?)
Sigh -- for John Mayer/Sheryl Crow tix. Oh well, I won Nickel Creek a few weeks back, so I wasn't eligible. But I should've called just to get the answers right. Jeeezus!!
-
finally figured it out. ll sampled "swat" in his "i'm bad," not in "mama said..."
-

Hrm. I heard a promo for it over the weekend, so clearly it had been decided upon last week. And since I only hear the first hour of the Morning Show, all the little discussions and asides are lost to me.
-
Rosalie's bonus: "California", Phantom Planet. (It's from The O.C. -- I didn't know either).
-
1. Black Flag - TV Party Tonight
2. A3 - Sopranos (Woke Up This Morning)
3. Mike Post - Rockford Files (BEST OF SET!!)
4. The Banana Splits - The Tra La Song
5. Bob James - Angela (Theme From Taxi)
6. Roger & the Goosebumps - Stairway to Gilligan's Island
7. Rhythm Heritage - Theme from SWAT
8. Cyndi Grecco - We're Gonna Make it (Laverne & Shirley)
9. Frank Zappa - I'm the Slime
10. Lucy Mega Mix - aka "Babalu Music"
-
Oh, this was a pleasant surprise, and we don't hear the Rockford Files theme that often. (Would love it, though, if Dave would bring some more instrumentals into the mix, like "Keem-O-Sabe" or the Incredible Bongo Band's "Apache.")
BOS, though to "BAAA-BAAH-LUUU!!!!"
-
My best of set would go to Bob James for the Taxi theme. Nice soothing jazz tune.
-
TV Party this morning!
Hanging around waiting for the phone call to go pick Christina up from the hospital & bring her home.
