Title: 24 July 2006: a TV Set
Post by: RGMike on July 24, 2006, 07:33:41 AM
Dave's taking suggestions, and is promising to play "Stairway to Gilligan's Island".

Not sure what prompted this set today (is it Philo Farnsworth's birthday?) but this makes 2 weeks in a row that we've gotten a Friday kinda set on Monday.

I'm hoping we don't get Laverne & Shirley (Making Our Dreams Come True) or the Happy Days theme--I think both charted.

ETA: And ditto for the Rockford theme, or any other one we hear regularly, for that matter.

Hey Mike, I was listening to the Underground Garage archives last week and noticed he'd done a whole show featuring music used on the Sopranos.  Did you catch it?  I was listening to his tribute to Hard Day's Night, but I'll have to catch the Sopranos set sometime soon.

Agreed on the first two, not minding the Rockford so much, except it's probably taking the place of something else I'd rather, such as the "Theme From S.W.A.T."

One banana, two banana, three banana, four.
Four bananas make a bunch and so do many more.

Makin up a mess of fun

Lot's of fun for everyone.

BOS "I'm the Slime". Someday Dave should do 10 songs about TV, without any themes.  "Watchin' TV With The Radio On", "Dirty Laundry", Nilsson's "Kojak Columbo", etc.

Re: what prompted the set... I was still kind of asleep, but the Morning Show did have Tim Goodman on this morning talking about the TV Critics Show down in L.A.  And the 9:00 Quiz (that went until like 9:20AM because apparently no Fogheads watched TV in the 80s) was all about 80s TV:

- What was Mallory's fiance's name from Family Ties?
Nick, played by Scott Valentine
- Which member of the A-Team was a pilot?
Murdock!  Howling Mad Murdock!  (NOT played by Dirk Benedict!  They gave 1/2 credit to the caller who said that!)
- What was the name of the cat from the Smurfs?
Azriel (sp?)

Sigh -- for John Mayer/Sheryl Crow tix.  Oh well, I won Nickel Creek a few weeks back, so I wasn't eligible.  But I should've called just to get the answers right.  Jeeezus!!
