another Birthday favor for a longtime Foghead who isn't you or me...
I guess a Bastille Day set featuring Plastic Bertrand was too much to hope for  . But anything's better than the snoozefest we just got from KBCO.

Many years ago, I was the lucky recipient of a bday vertical.

Let's hope he starts way back for today's lucky foghead.
ETA: I guess '73 to '82 is good enough.
"Kodachrome" is a fairly obvious starting point given Chuck's story.
-
Class of 73--this could be good.
Dude likes Plymouths.

Class of 73--this could be good.
indeed: '73 to '82 is golden time.
instant flashback/sledgehammer: "Kodachrome". ETA: amazing Simon never sold this to Kodak for a commercial.

Ditto. I was just starting HS in 73, so this song is ripe in my memories of that summer as well.
I believe I've got the 45 of this tucked away somewhere.
"When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school..."

I know I say this every time, but there was actually a radio station in NYC that censored the word "crap".
-
Was "Rikki..." still on the charts in July? I recall this LP being an early-in-the-year release.
-
Am really anxious to hear what we get for '75--there were some great singles that summer. Love Will Keep Us Together or I'm Not In Love, to name just two--either would be ideal.

Will ya settle for "Jive Talkin'"? 2 songs from that LP in one week! Woo Hoo!
Has Dave EVER played Capt & Tenille outside of a HFH set?
My fave shoulda-been-hit from that summer: The Hollies, "4th of July Asbury Park (Sandy)" Gorgeous.
-
wooo yeah. Jive Talkin.
-
Disco!!!!!!

Sounds like a good pole dance tune too.

Most def. Nice choice.
And I'm not sure if we've ever heard LWKUT in any set--Muskrat Love is the one song I'm pretty sure has turned up, and yes, it's a HFH.
-
and speaking of HFHs: "I'm in You".
-
We've hit the Cheeze Zone.
Boy was this album hyped beyond belief, and boy were a lot of people disappointed when we actually heard it. Spawned a lot of jokes and wisecracks though.
-
Gerry Rafferty, always lovely.
-

Oddly enough, it's not sounding too bad right now. But I'm artificially psyched -- just waited through the presale splurge and GOT MY TOM PETTY tickets!
Woohoo!

And it had been so long since I'd heard it that I had never realized until now that it was sampled heavily to make Len's "Steal My Sunshine".

Indeed, and a perfect choice for Super Hit 6.
If Dave's trying to pick songs that would have been ideal for picking up chicks, he's doing a fine job. Go figure.

Another year and then you'll be happy
Just one more year and then you'll be happy
But you're cryin', yes you're cryin' now.

What did you get? I was tempted, I had Sect 9 row 11 and didn't get them. ALso did you get Friday or Saturday?

I never tire of this one.

Section 3, Row 9, Saturday. Not great seats, but not bad. I haven't been to a show since Robert Plant last August....

And it had been so long since I'd heard it that I had never realized until now that it was sampled heavily to make Len's "Steal My Sunshine".
Wow, is that the song they sampled? I knew it sounded familiar but I couldn't place it. I'll have to hear it again... I didn't hear Andrea today.
-
somehow, I never really warmed up to him.

I was a pretty big BJ fan (heh) in my teens, especially The Stranger and 52nd Street.
But "Still Billy Joel to Me" stinks.
-

not hip now, but he was the bee's knees for a while.
Actually, he was a god in NYC long before his national breakout with The Stranger. Long about the LP Dave played today, he became decidedly UNfashionable. (Rolling Stone famously said Glass Houses deserved a polyester album, rather than gold or platinum).
His writing, from Piano Man thru 52nd St is very good and sometimes brilliant. He got the juice back for Nylon Curtain and Innocent Man, but it's been a slow downhill slog ever since.
Jeez, did we HAVE to hear Martha Motel? Dave surely loves this one.

Depends who you ask, but no, not in my book.

Dang it -- you all beat me to it! Yeah, I guess I'd never listened closely enough to realize it! Wikipedia's got the full scoop on Andrea True, and also confirms the Len sample:

Motels kinda ending this with a whimper in my book, but pretty nice VT all-in-all.

I have to say: Great Year!! ... my High School graduation year too!!

We've definitely heard worse. This was a great span of years to work from.

If you haven't seen it you MUST rent the docu Inside Deep Throat, in which Ms True makes an appearance. She looks like the little old (sixtysomething) Jewish bubbie that she now is.

I never tire of this one.
I'll be showing my age (youth?) with this one, but for me Baker Street will forever be associated with ice skating. :-}
Yeah -- I assume it must've been the summer of 1978, since that when Baker Street was at the top of the charts. My grandma would happily take me via bus and BART from Alameda to Southland Mall in Hayward to go skating on their ice rink. They either had their PA system hooked up to a local top 40 station (although I don't recall hearing commercials), or somebody in the office really really liked this track.
I remember getting especially charged up during the opening of the song, and then when the sax hook hit -- fwoosh, I would just go go go.
I of course was a crappy skater who never learned to properly turn, but man did I love to go fast. Especially to this song.

5. 1977 - Peter Frampton - I'm in You (eeewwwww, NO!)
Anyone catch DM's comment during the backsell "We'll have to talk about this record some time..." or words to that effect. Wonder what he meant by that? There's gotta be a story there....

I heard that too; my first thought was a loss-of-virginity story, but Dave would've been, what, 27? 28? in '77.

No, I distinctly remember Dave claiming to have lost his virginity to Isaac Hayes's cover of "Never Can Say Goodbye" (in fact, I think Dave told Isaac so in a late-'90s KFOG interview). I didn't hear the tone of his backsell but I'm reading it as "I'm going to resuscitate it from its bad rap."
