Welcome Ded Hed!

Hope you don't mind my changing your subject line a touch. We have this naming convention we try to stick to in this thread (the rest of 'em are pretty much whatever you feel like naming them). But congrats on starting your first 10@10 thread!

Frankly, I'd be just as happy to NOT share my birthday with the station. It usually means I don't get a birthday set. Not that I'm alone in that distinction around here.

Indeed.  This is, for me at least, the Bustout of the year.

ETA: Mike, are you also familiar with his other new wave hit - "Baby's In The Mountains"?

I know it well -- a NY alternative radio biggie back then

Nothing is sacred
So, give me your soul
Nothing is wasted
On someone like you

Somebody killed me
And tore out my heart, my love
Somebody killed me
Because of you

And there's nothing I can do
The media made you
There's nothing I can do
'cause you don't exist
you don't exist

Just images of heaven
that take me to hell
Images of heaven
Of something to sell
Images of heaven
Images of heaven

Something posessed me
An image of you, my love

Video visions
That play on my mind

Nobody blessed me
With power to reach, my love

When you're an illusion
You can still be divine

And nobody believes
In this new religion
Yeah nobody believes
'cause nobody sees
nobody sees

Images of heaven
Take me to hell
Images of heaven
of something to sell
Images of heaven
Images of heaven

Images of heaven
Images of heaven

And there's nothing I can do
The camera made you
There's nothing I can do
'cause you don't exist
You don't exist

Just images of heaven
that take me to hell
Images of heaven
Of something to sell
Images of heaven
Images of heaven
Title: Bass fun
Post by: Davefish on July 12, 2006, 10:08:10 AM
Hey, Geoff.  I saw Lyle Lovett last night at the Mountain Winery and the bass player, who looked a lot like Santa Claus, except skinny, was playing a very strange looking bass.  It was metallic red, had at least 5 strings (maybe 6, couldn't tell from my seat), and had a very strange fret pattern.  It looked something like this:    \\\\\||||||///////.  Any idea what kind it was, and why the strange fret pattern?  The guy was amazing on it, by the way.  Much in the mold of John Entwistle -- flying fingers but stationary body.

3rd time in 6 sets this year he's used that song, & second time in a row he led into it with an AIDS clip.

But we haven't heard this Sandinista Combat Rock track in nearly 4 years, which for me is more than making up for it.

World's Away
a damn good Roxy Music-meets-the Cars ripoff.
let's hope that NEVER happens! this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/feature/-/973201/ref%3Dcd%5Fsp%5Fmysh%5F1/104-4556410-6981550) is bad enough.
couldn't agree more... Todd + Cars = $*&%

I do like Todd solo though... .. I saw him at the Sausalito Art Fest a few years ago...
He had just moved from Marin to Hawaii....
he said "When I felt the desire to buy a Lexus, I knew I had to leave Marin." .. too funny...
Oh, yeah, like he was living in a tarpaper shack in West Marin

I love Todd too, but if you can afford to upgrade from Marin to Hawaii, you shouldn't be making fun of rich people. You ARE one.
I wonder what he is driving though??

Well, I can't help but remember the big Playboy spread on his girlfriend at the time Bebe Buell, and there was a picture of Todd riding a tractor!

BOS #3, the Members!

Defintitely one of Dave's better efforts for this chart year.

Checked my list last night as I was archiving this one--in nearly 5 years of recording selected 10@10s, this is the first 1982 set I've ever done. Take that for what you will.

So I'm tuned into the replay now, just in time for Simple Minds' "Promised You a Miracle."  Seems like every one of their songs takes me eons to develop a fondness for.  This one still seems stiffly funky but I'm enjoying it.

Anyway, the talk upthread about recording sets leads me to wonder: How difficult would it be to use something like the Google shared-spreadsheet app to post what we've archived?  Would be dandy to have a means of expediting exchanges, for those with burners, tape records, etc.  Just a thought, as if I don't already have more music than I can possibly listen to.
