Title: 11 July 2006: "Dave's not here, man" (1975)

Despite what Dave said about voter turnout (and a pox on any Foghead who votes for CH for the next calendar year!), you can tell from his lackluster back-announce that he wasn't into it.

Turns out he was coming down with the flu.  A "Classic" from '75 today.

OK, I'll stick around for this one, but I might "multitask" and check out KINK too.

If the next song is Ace "How Long" then this is a repeat of a really good set from '03.  If not then it's new to the Db.

a fine set indeed, I'll catch up with it tonite.

BTW, KINK's "Top Ten Tuesday" indeed turns out to be a weekly theme set. Today: oh ho ho it's "Magic", first by Pilot, now the Cars. Gee, can ya guess what else is in store?

And Dave (or anybody else) NEVER plays the great follow-up LP, Somewhere I've Never Travelled, featuring "Dance With Me George".

Don't know how their albums sold, but it seems to me they were fairly popular as a live act--I recall them playing theaters (2,000 to 3,000 seaters), which at that time made them a mid-level act, more or less. (Remember, in '75 even the Stones were still playing arenas, and stadium rock was just getting some traction.)

i should be ashamed to call myself a fan. i've still never heard the tune. but i saw them live at a lodge in the santa cruz mountains - doesn't that count?

btw, this is a setlist that I got from Urth, not from Darryl.  Which is to say that one could probably get a copy of this from him.  I plan to ask, if only to get the clip of Don Pardo goin' "Turn this one up Dave, Big Don likes this one Loud!"

Hey Mark, can you check the db to see if I have this one archived already or not? If not, I probably should.

ETA: Never mind--I see that you've already answered that question. I really should read thru the entire thread before I post sometimes.

Now if Dave pulled that long-out-of-print Loudon Wainwright LP out of mothballs someday, I'd really be impressed...

Sounds by the backsell that this was a classic in 2003, since Dave's referring to the Yahoo club. By '03 we'd moved on to discserver.

Per the notes from my list at home, this set originally aired 8/17/2000. I distinctly remember hearing the 2003 rebroadcast though, as I had taken a mental health day from work and was driving up to Sacramento to deal with some of the details of selling my house there. I remember hearing Nights on Broadway as I was driving thru Vallejo and thinking this was the best 75 set ever. I just caught the end of the set before the signal died out around Fairfield.
