She's a lot like Katrina -- the overplayed type!

so, this morning in class, I said "Let's Go!" and one of my students said there's a song like that. I'm thinking he's talking about some gang-bangin' rap song, but then he says the song is by The Cars! Pretty funny, eh?
-
Yay for Sniff'n the Tears. I always thought the song was called "Travesty".
-
is this the same year as "Girl of My Dreams?"
Bring on the Bram!
-

I just checked, and I betcha no one can name even 1 of the 3 biggest Katrina's of 1979.
Sniff is a runner-up. He is no elite.

Bring on the Bram!
indeed-- let's go for the 12-string-guitar trifecta!
Bram T "GOMD"
The Shoes, "Too Late"
The Records, "Starry Eyes"
-
Well, one down, "Jane". The other two are even less intuitive (imho).
ETA: check that, one is still pretty obvious, the other is not.
-
AAAAAACK! JaneyJaneyJaney Jane. WOS.
-

are they chart hits or LP tracks?

One of each. I suppose one of our absent members might guess the harder one.

a truly awful record -- vocally, lyrically, and far far worse than their much-maligned "We Built This City", IMHO
-

The Dan White clip?

The Dan White clip?
That would be a "Sally", for sure.
-
BOS "Tullamore Dew/Phoenix" nicely used under the Dan White verdict riot clips.
"I have cried too long..."
-
VHM "Phoenix", those twin sons of different Jewish mothers.
-
"We Are Family" -- is this one?
nope, runner up along with Sniff, JJ's "On Your Radio", Hot Chocolate, Ian Gomm, Gibson Bros & Third World.

McFadden & Whitehead, "Ain't No Stoppin' Us"?
nope. That only shows up approx once/year.

Stumper! I'm surprised Hot Chocolate is remotely close; I don't recall hearing "Every 1's a Winner" all that often. "Coo-ba," I can see, though. Can't even hazard a good guess.

OMG, BOS, TH.
a place where nothing ever happens
-
BOS T.Heads "Heaven".

Something by Dire Straits?
-
BOS T.Heads "Heaven".
Second or third the BOS. Lovely.

The absent member is correct! (albeit now he doesn't qualify as absent anymore).
-
VHM Head Games. Good flashbacks.
-
BOS T.Heads "Heaven".
Second or third the BOS. Lovely.
Dave hasn't treated us to this in almost 4 years.
But an even bigger believe-it-or-not, "Head Games" is a bonafide Bustout.
-
VHM Head Games. Good flashbacks.
and a far better example of corporate AOR than the aforemantioned JaneyJaneyJane.
-
BOS2 Kinks.
-
BOS #3, "...this is Captain America calling."
ETA: I have to assume that they got explicit permission from Keith to lift the Jumping Jack Flash riff. Anyone know the story?
-
Jose's back -- sniffin' Dave's driver's seat.

Considering how much thieving the Stones did in their formative years, I'd like to think they let this slide as homage/tribute.

As usual, the one I think is easiest turns out to be toughest: "Cruel To Be Kind".
I figured no one would guess "Jane" & "Southbound Suarez".
-
Jose's back -- sniffin' Dave's driver's seat.
"Fine Corinthian leather!"

I didn't look at that picture very closely until now. Why the fuck is there a holodeck in the showroom? And doesn't the shadow image look like a crane just ate the driver of another car there?

I think it looks like someone's pouring gasoline directly into the seats. That "holodeck" looks like a space-age wine rack.
-

I can only assume it has something to do with the Wrath of Kahn. The pic is from 86, WOK was about '83. Can't even guess about the shadow image. Very strange ad.
KAHHHHHNNNNN!
-
Why the fuck is there a holodeck in the showroom?
It ain't no holla-DECK, girl!
