I spent a month in Holland 27 years ago, and was always struck not only by how well they generally spoke English, but even more by how much it was American English, not British.  POC, do you find this to be true where you're at?  In subsequent travels in Asia I met some folks who were speaking good English & asked them if they were American only to find that they were Dutch! This happened to me on more than one occasion.

No, but tired as I am, I could go for some white, white lines on the freeway's way.

it is an odd phenom. everyone else (french, germans, spanish, etc.) speaks british english, but not the dutch! perfect american accents. or as near as they come. i think they're just awfully good at imitation. channel-surfing will yield results in six different languages, at any given time.
