TANC: I was just listening to "We Gotta Get You a Woman" last night.
-
OMG! BOS Miss Melanie, laying down her candles in the rain and bleeding inside each others wounds.
-
OMGWTF!!! BOS to Melanie with the Edwin Hawkins Singers, all catching the same disease (ewww!) on "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)." Apparently this was edited down from a 7- or 8-minute recording, which I'd love to hear in its entirety.
-
"the Beatles... rapping..." Oh, the old kinda rapping.
-
more Dominoes.. Thank god it's not Layla again.
-
That commercial was kind of a sledgehammer for me. I remember the fact of watching Let It Be in '77 or '78 on HBO; I don't remember specifics from the movie but I know it made me cry a couple times. (I got the concept of nasty breakups awfully early, I suppose.)
And now a revisit to Derek & the Dominoes, "Bell Bottom Blues" getting a VHM vote from me.
-
BOS2 Doors, down to da roadhouse, y'all. Morrison Hotel, that rare Doors LP without a Top 40 single, iirc.
-
Sugarloaf -- the looooooooong version!
-
VHM DC-T w/ BS&T, "Hi-De-Ho". Not to be confused with "Heidi da 'Ho".
-
I've never heard this (BST?) version of Carole King's "Hi-De-Ho (That Old Sweet Roll)" before; all I've ever known is Dusty Springfield's sultry rendition.

from the much-maligned BS&T3, the one with "Lucretia McEvil" and their cover of "Sympathy for the Devil".
BOS3 "No Sugar Tonight".
-
HM to "No Sugar Tonight." This and "No Time Left for You" were in heavy rotation on Pittsburgh's oldies station while I was growing up, but I've barely hear either in the years since. I wonder why 3WS had so much love for them.
-
BOS2 to "Make Me Smile." One of the world's all-time great horn charts does just that for me.
-
BOS4 the orig of "Sweet Jane" .
BOS5 "Make Me Smile" -- I guess it ain't the entire Ballet for a Girl from Buchanan...
but an interesting radio-only edit!

Cry sweet tears of joy!

actually, Bob, "Hi-De-Ho" was the 2nd single from BS&T3, after "Lucy You Just So Damn BAD McEvil"
-
i never knew that was the edwin hawkins singers with melanie. i'd love to hear the long version, too. the only version i've ever heard is the one on the freedom rock cassette. remember those lovely commercials? i always confused them with randy from the redwoods.
great bs&t version. i *wish* dave would play their "sympathy" in a covers-from-hellset. and "make me smile" is my favorite chicago song.

"Dude, is that Freedom Rock? Well crank it UP, Man!!!"
Ah, to be reduced to a cultural stereotype...
Do you remember the Motown compliation that was advertised around the same time? The father comes in and tells the kids to turn off the music and go to bed, and the kids scream "But Daaad -- it's SMOKEY!"

no, i don't remember that. and it seems a highly unlikely scenario.

It was hilarious, my NY friends and I STILL quote it nearly every time we hear a Smokey Robinson song!
