Our last '86-er was better than average:

Quote
Level 42 - Something About You
Bryan Adams - It's Only Love
Stevie Nicks - I Can't Wait
Call - I Still Believe
OMD - If You Leave
XTC - Summer's Cauldron (B-O-S!!!)
REM - Fall on Me
Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian
Icehouse - No Promises
Joe Jackson - Right & Wrong
BONUS TRACK: Talking Heads - Love For Sale

So here's hoping for similar inspiration on Dave's part.

This just makes me remember their appearance last year on Hit Me Baby.  Any idea if that's coming back this year?  Seemed like a perfect summer show.

I'd love a brief bit of Danny Aiello's "answer", "Papa DO Preach", but that's probably asking too much.

You betcha.  The following Madonna tunes appear once each in the Db: "Erotica", "Material Girl", "Santa Baby" & "Vogue".  The only tune to appear more than once?  "American Pie" has been a repeat HFH.

Isn't that extraordinary? I mean (a) she's arguably the biggest artist of the '80s, with a huge catalog of hits, and (b) Dave's a big 'mo. The 2 combined would seem to make her ideal 10@10 Katrina material.

Not so much, it's currently at 20% (3 for 15), but "Life's What You Make It" is now officially a Katrina - 33.3% (5 for 15).

Inarguably.  20 Top 40's, of which 19 are Top 20's, of which 17 are Top 10's, of which 16 are Top 5's, including SEVEN #1's & four #2's.  MJ had 9 #1's, but fewer overall in the other categories.  And her career trumps his since.

I tend to side with you from my observational standpoint.  But my Whitburn bible of choice (The Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits), which compiles stat points for singles in terms of chart longevity as well as peak position, ranks the artists of the '80s as follows:

1. Michael Jackson (1,944)
2. Madonna (1,878)
3. Hall & Oates (1,801)
4. Prince (1,679)
5. George Michael/Wham (1,631)

and of those 5, Dave's record more or less:

MJ: He plays "Billie Jean" & "Beat it" in '83 and nearly nothing else, outside of HFH sets, unless you count "Rock With You" as '80 rather than '79 (not to mention never playing sister Janet -- for shame!)
Madge: as stated by mshray
H&O: Dave's done a decent job of rehabbing them as far as the Fogheads who also used to hate ABBA are concerned.
Prince: we've recently gotten several post-'84 beakouts by the Purple One, so there's hope there.
GM: you gotta have Faith-a, Faith-a, Faith-a!
