I wonder if KFOG is doing A-Z this year?  Usually it happens between Feb & April.  Reason I think of it now is that I can judge if it's going to be a good year or not by whether Henley's "Boys of Summer" is followed by the Atari's awesome rockin' cover.  In 2004 it was, last year not.

One of the realtively few times where the live version is better than the original, "Burning Down The House" from Stop Making Sense (a Jonathan Demme film)

Bowie's "1984" would have been wonderful to hear in its entirety.  I'll settle for the rain on Annie, though.

(Work for latest issue of Jane ended yesterday, to resume next month.  I got to sleep in today!)

My suspicion is that the Ataris are going to be lost to time.  The cover was pleasant, but not really necessary.

For three blissful seconds, I misidentified "Rockin' at Midnight" as "The Curly Shuffle."  Oh well.

OMGWTF of Set: "Smuggler's Blues."  Maybe I'd like it better if it were called "Plum Smuggler's Blues."  But as well-written as the song is, it's just way difficult for me to ignore how smirking and smarmy Glenn Frey is.

Too bad Dave doesn't seem to agree.  Guess which is the only song of hers in the 10@10 archive?

If it involves a "lipstick case," I don't want to know.

Agree with your analysis.  I either start by going "Oh God, here's Glenn Frey", and then wind up grooving a bit, or else the other way around.  Today it's the other way around.

You know, I have still never heard the Tom Petty song that "Run to You" purportedly lifts from.

Well then, you don't wanna know.

And I don't wanna hear this Bryan Adams song, in which seems to me the rhythm guitar is stolen from Donnie Iris.

Dave plays this in '85 for some reason, but thankfully not often.

And that's just unthinkable.  "Love Is a Battlefield" and "Invincible" are simply incredible songs, and it'd be entertaining to get "Fire and Ice" and "Sex As a Weapon" every once in a while too.  Not to mention "Hell Is for Children," another worthy entry in the "Sounds Better When Sung By Fred Schneider" songbook.

The mystery of his critical/cultural rehabilitation, mostly: Mariah Carey covered "Against All Odds" and went to #2 in England with it, and a bunch of R&B artists did a covers album of his work called "Urban Renewal."  It included a schizo reimagining of "Sussudio" by Ol' Dirty Bastard.

The presenter took great pleasure in exposing Phil as an ass: Around this time he did an interview with Playboy in which he took great pains to rag on Barry Manilow and distinguish his meaningful work from Barry's fluff.  (I know, I know.)  Highly entertaining.

If you didn't switch out immediately you are being treated to Bad Company's "Seagull".  One of those Deep Tracks songs that justifies the whole concept.

Wow, I was unaware of that -- is he really that clueless as to what an astoundingly faithful clone of Manilow's writing/production style "AAO" is? Yikes.
