I wish I didn't have the crystal ball on this one.

It makes my job easier of not being distracted while I should be preparing for my 4th period class!

Well, so much for MY psychic powers.  Not the finest of hours, Dave. Unless he pulls off a really interesting breakout.

So Far So Good, though.  R.E.M. into Jesus & Mary Chain.

Please, no Robbie Nevil.

Hate the song, but I'll give Dave props for a nice segue, from Nancy R. asking the school kids what to say when someone offers them drugs into Clapton singing "It's in the way that you use it." Hah!!

What should you do if someone offers you drugs?

Just say "It's in the way that you use it!"

ROTFL!!

Maybe it's because I really love the movie it came from, The Color Of Money, but I still like very much "It's In the Way That You Use It," particularly the bridge.

...I've seen dark times (never like this)...

I still like this & Mandolin Wind & Western Skyline, but I don't need to hear "The Way It Is" for the rest of the decade.

From J&MC to JCM, BOS's for all!

ETA: Just to be clear, I mean both, not all in between.

VHM JCM. This was quite a good album, even if it didn't get quite the reaction that Scarecrow did.

Still, it rocks.

And a strong VHM to "Cloud 9", much preferred by me to either "Devil's Radio" or "When We Was Fab".

Agreed, and yet another to George, just cuz it's not the tracks we usually hear from this album. Don't think it's a bustout, but I've been known to be wrong about these things before.

Okay, that was the 26th set from 1987 that I now have a record of and only the FIFTH time that we managed to avoid both Robbie Nevil & Crowded House.

So by that definition this is automatically one of Dave's top 1987 sets ever.

I think the key to the song is in the last verse, when Johnette sings,
"He doesn't give a fuck, he's living under a truck.
You know it coulda been me, guess it's just my luck."
And I swear she inflects it with a little wistful envy, like 'living under a truck' would be not-so-bad.
_____

I was walking down the street early this morning
Past the graveyard, voices whisper to me.
I was walking down the street, early this morning
And the silver tears of rain hung from the leaves
And I swear I heard the voices singing to me...
Singing to the rhythm of the beat of my feet,
I swear I heard the voices singing to me -
Keep on, keep on, keep on.

Still in Hollywood!
oh WOW! Thought I'd be out of here by now.
Still in Hollywood!
My, my I'm running on a wheel and I don't know why
I don't know why.

And on the bus today, I met the Queen of L.A. -
At least she said she was, and who am I to say?
She was sixty-five and full of life,
She had purple-painted cheeks
And glitter on her eyes.
And the troll on the corner, I flipped him a quarter
And he looked at me and smiled.
He wasn't abused, he wasn't confused,
He had nothing to gain and less to lose in Hollywood

oh WOW! Thought I'd be out of here by now.
Still in Hollywood!
My, my I'm running like a rat and I don't know why

And so it's three A.M., I'm out walking again.
I'm just a spot on the sidewalk in a city of sin.
He doesn't give a fuck, he's living under a truck.
You know it coulda been me, guess it's just my luck.
But I swear I hear the voices singing to me -
Keep on, keep on, keep on.

Still in Hollywood...

That's a powerful lyric!  Someday I'll make my "I Hate You L.A. I Love You" mix, which will include this song as well as

Albert Hammond, "It Never Rains in Southern California"
The Animators, "Die in L.A."
Bran Van 3000, "Drinking in L.A."
Beth Hart, "L.A. Song"
Ides of March, "L.A. Goodbye"

I don't think any city inspires as much internal conflict and cognitive dissonance as the City of the Fallen Angels.

reminds me of the Doors:
Quote
Sidewalk crouches at her feet
Like a dog that begs for something sweet
Do you hope to make her see, you fool?
Do you hope to pluck this dusky jewel?
