Title: 19 April 2006: 1978
Post by: mshray on April 19, 2006, 10:00:06 AM
After two lackluster theme sets in the past 3 days I don't know what to expect from Dave today.

But anyway, I have completed an Excel spreadsheet of every set list from the beginning of Darryl's archive throgh the end of 2004.  This comprises 456 sets, but only the last 6 months are continuous.  Anyone want me to send it to them?

Who was it who just said all we ever hear from Don't Look Back is Don't Look Back?

multiple 10@10s always make me think "we've just been there" -- and we have, with Bob and Ginger --but it's been a month since Dave did '78.

That would be me (or "we"), when Bob played "A Man I'll Never Be". Granted DLB is a quintessential TOTHC, but --- AAAAACK! my "Thunder Island" premonition comes true 2 days late.

So far this set is thick with late-70s pseudo-prog (Boston, Kansas). If we're going that way, I'd love to hear something off Yes' Tormato--perhaps Don't Kill the Whale?

ETA: Make that late 70s.

Depending on what else comes up, Every Kinda People is likely to get my BOS vote today.

Who was the interviewer in that clip? '78 was too late for Cavett, wasn't it? Def. not Tom Snyder or Carson.

ROTFL!!!

(although not until after I realized you meant Limbaugh, not Geddy, Neil & Alex).

Yep.  Gotta second that.  I wonder if this tune really made the Hot 100.  Is that still a requirement for appearing on 10at10?

BOS3 to Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner (2 was the Stones, if I forgot to mention it.) Wonder if Roland and his ilk will be seeking work in Iran shortly?

Zeroing in on 2500 posts--I think that earns me a new mantle, yes?

I called in my vote for Robert Palmer, and Dave said it came from CBC, a show called "90 Minutes".  So unless you were living in Canada back then you'd have never heard it.

no, it's not a requirement. If it was released in and/or if someone remembers it from the year in question, it's "legal". "Roland" was never a single, afaik.

BOS4 Ms. Summer -- probably not the looooong version.

I'm pretty sure a lot of what Dave plays was never in the Hot 100, "Scottish Tea" to name just one that we're all familiar with.

Cool! The gal who won the quiz asked for "Lipstick Vogue", which wasn't one of Annalisa's offerings, but the gal said it was her Request-O-Rama song but she never wins.

This gives me much greater incentive to call in at 11:15, if I could actually pick something off the menu.

OMG! cool Foghead rejects all Annalisa's suggestions and sez: Play Elvis C, "Lipstick Vogue"!  woo hoo!

great Annalisa line: they made Keith do his benefit concert for the blind -- so that he wouldn't scare any children. ROTFL!
