Dave was soliciting suggestions earlier, but I'm betting it's pretty much the same set we always hear.
-
B-B-B-But I thought Monday was the actual filing deadline since the 15th falls on a weekend? Am I dangerously misinformed?

Nah, you're good. Monday is the deadline this year.

You are correct, but as we're probably getting a 100th Anniv Earthquake Set on Tues, Dave's probably trying to stagger his theme shows.
-
early BOS O'Jays... hoping for 10cc's "Wall St Shuffle".

That's my take on it, and just to be sure I called Dave & asked since I had a suggestion to make for Tuesday. He said yes & so I made my suggestion.

If any of you have heard of this I'll be shocked, basically the only way you'd know it is if you were listening to KROQ circa '84 in L.A. or if you own Vol. 10 of Rhino's Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the 80's series. "The Earthquake Song" is by a Go-Go's wannbe group called The Little Girls, and the first verse goes like this (very peppy & upbeat):
There's gonna be an earthquake in this town.
There will be houses falling down.
The fire hydrants will blow up,
The streets will crack, the pipes will pop.
It's gonna kill me mom & dad
They are the only folks I had
But they better not blame me, cuz
It's Not My Fault!
pun obviously intended

That's an oxymoron in my book. Oh well, matters of taste...
-
interesting of Dave to play a Judge Judy clip, except that I can't stand Judge Judy.

I'm a HUGE Newman fan, but his other "money" song, "It's Money That I Love", would be nice for a change.

It may be a tax day katrina, but BOS to Boz and Duane, guitar junkie that I am...
-
must be that way!

If we're suggesting earthquake songs, my two picks would be Gram Parsons' Sin City ("This old earthquake's gonna put me in the poorhouse, it seems like the whole town's insane") and Rodney Crowell's California Earthquake.
(Of course, we'll probably get a wealth of "shaking" songs: Shakedown Street, You Shook Me, Whole Lot of Shakin' Goin' On, and so forth.)
BOS Boz, Loan Me a Dime. Even if we do hear it nearly every year, this is the best thing about the Tax set.
-
It may be a tax day katrina, but BOS to Boz and Duane, guitar junkie that I am...
Takes me back to the inaugural concert at Flint Center, I remember Boz coming up to the mic, with that long coiled cable behind him:
"I know she's a good girl..."
-
shouldn't Robert Cray be able to avoid his taxes, being such a strong persuader?
-
Robert Cray, oh Robert. How inelegant canst thou get?

Does your avatar need a name?
-
BOS here: O'Jays (one of the greatest production and arrangement jobs ever, hands down), Patsy's wicket baskets, and Boz.
100th anniv request: Cass Elliot, "California Earthquake." More likely we get Chad Allan / Guess Who, "Shakin' All Over."
-
Name my avatar......
"Arthur."
Seriously, I was wondering; is it Eric Carmen?
-

Apparently not, which is how he wound up on the Night Patrol.

Yeah, besides, he's an admitted cheater.

OH! I get it!
Every Money Set needs a "money shot"
-
This "Cash Machine" song by Hard-Fi is in seriously heavy rotation. This must be the 5th or 6th time I've heard it this week, and I don't listen to KFOG all that much outside of 10@10.
-
Bonus: "Goin' Mobile"??? WTF???
-
Bonus: "Goin' Mobile"??? WTF???
There is this:
I don't care about pollution
I'm an air-conditioned gypsy
That's my solution
Watch the police and the tax man miss me
I'm mobile
Oooooh, yeah, hee!

I kinda thought he looks like Michael Des Barres in that shot.

Now if it were Pamela des Barres, we'd really be talkin' "money shot"

Is "Loan Me a Dime" as popular in other parts of the country?
I highly doubt it. I've never heard LMAD on this coast, and to underscore how treasured it is there in SF, I heard it at the Pilsner while I was there!

In musician circles, this is perhaps Duane Allman's most famous non-slide guitar solo, so it penetrates the national consciousness in that regard.

Indeed, to go back even further than Gaz, Boz was popular on NYC progressive radio long before Silk Degrees -- songs like "We Were Always Sweethearts" and "Dinah Flo" were big "turntable hits" even as they were faltering on the singles chart. But I'd never heard "LMAD" on the radio until I moved out here.
Speaking of, this set was the first time I've heard King Biscuit Boy & Crowbar since the early '70s. Wonder what posessed Dave to dig that one out?
-
Man, I would LOVE to hear We Were Always Sweethearts in a 71 set some time--it's probably been played but damned if I can remember it. That said, I'm shocked that anything besides LMAD won BOS. (And did Dave mention the 30s-vintage tune (chorus was "plenty of money and you" or something along those lines) that he played between Dire Straits and the AbFab clip in the backsell? It was only about a minute long, if that. Very catchy, never heard it before.
Oh and here's the Money Setlist:
4/14/06 - FRIDAY!!! Uh oh...Tax time...Today it's all about M-O-N-E-Y!!
Beatles (yeah!) - Tax Man (Best of $et!!)
O'Jays - For the Love of Money
Dire Straits - Money for Nothing
Kinks - Sunny Afternoon
Randy Newman - It's Money That Matters
King Biscuit Boy - Badly Bent
Barret Strong - Money
Boz - Loan Me a Dime
Robert Cray - 1040 Blues
Ray Charles- Busted
BONUS TRACK: Who - Goin' Mobile

7. O'Jay's - For the Love of Money
8. 10cc - Wall Street Shuffle
9. Ray Charles - Busted
10. Beatles - Tax Man
Just looked thru my files and found that I have the 2002 Tax Day set:
1. Money-Pink Floyd
2. Money (That's What I Want)-The Flying Lizards
3. Money (That's What I Want)-Barrett Strong
4. Loan Me a Dime-Boz Scaggs (Best of Set)
5. For the Love of Money-O'Jays
6. Taxman-The Beatles
7. The 1040 Blues-Robert Cray Band
8. Busted-Ray Charles
9. Did You Steal My Money-The Who
10. It's Money That Matters-Randy Newman
There seem to be a core of 6 tunes that get played nearly every year: the Barrett Strong, Boz, O'Jays, Beatles (of course), Robert Cray, and Ray Charles; with Pink Floyd's Money, Sunny Afternoon, and It's Money That Matters only skipping a year now and again (although last year's Mr. President was a welcome substitute from the Randy Newman catalog).
