Every time DM intro's a set by saying "a kiss for luck and we're on our way to..." I keep hoping we're heading to 1970 (the year of the Carpenters' hit). Boy was I wrong today.

Last nite Little Steven was talking about rock guitarists each having their own distinctive tone: "Clapton invented tone... but with all due respect, he's forgotten all about it in recent years..."

Who's this after Clapton? I like his tone.  Rod went to Augusta and brought Fail Nippleson some luck, apparently.

Me either. Gary Moore maybe? It doesn't have Satriani's tone, and it's a little too funky for Eric Johnson.

I'm back, but catching up after vacation leaves little time for posting.

BOS, Nirvana.

Not too bad a set so far. The Nirvana is the closest I've heard to a katrina, and I like this song too much to bitch about it. Cobain sure did have a way with a heavy guitar riff.

I wasn't paying very good attention this morning, so I didn't register what came after clapton.

I was rooting hard for Freddy yesterday, watching at home (just went Thursday/Friday, traveled Saturday).  Poor guy couldn't buy a put, except on 13.

"the bad news is, Bob Dole's gonna be the chaperone..."

Well, there are worse things than a chaperone who brings his own Viagra...

VHM Smithereens. Another hook-friendly band. They were kind of in decline by this time, but I'm liking the way this sounds.

I'm not a big Alec Baldwin fan overall, but I'm glad he finally got an Oscar nom for The Cooler a couple years ago to make up for being snubbed for his scorching appearance in GGR.  It wasn't until a couple years later that the academy decided you only had to be onscreen for one scene to earn the nom for Performance in a Supporting Role.  Like William Hurt this past year.

None of the above. Robben Ford and the Blue Line. I asked Dave.

Makes sense, good tone, but too much shredding for an old Geezer.

Or Beatrice Straight in Network -- and she won.  Mamet wrote that part (it doesn't appear in the orig play) especially for Baldwin.
