Chris Rea's going to Hell.

Chris Rea's going to Hell.
and so will Dave if this is a typical Katrina-laden '89 set.
The meeting was short. Kinda wish it had run longer...
AAACK! FYC!
-
Chris Rea's going to Hell.
And neither George H.W. Bush nor Roland Gift are looking back.
-
Chris Rea's going to Hell.
And I almost wish the FYCs would as well (though this one's not *remotely* so overplayed as the other two).

Chris Rea's going to Hell.
*And* jinx x 3 !!!

AAACK! FYC!
driving in this a.m. I was listening to a gigantic playlist of 80's stuff I made last night & one of the first thigns that popped up was FYC cover of "Ever Fallen In Love", which I was totally digging.
At least it wasn't "She Drives Me Crazy".

BOS the Big O -- what a wonderful album this was. HM Bono for writing the song.

Roy O. after we already heard Bobby Z. How many other Wilbury's are queued up?

huh?

Where's Geoff? I want to ask him who's playing bass on this Peter Himmelman track, 'cuz to my barely-educated ear it sounds a bit Pino-ish.

3 of us responded to "Chris Rea's going to Hell" with "and..."

ahhh, see it was the asterisks instead of quote marks that threw me off.

Love Sh-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK! I never need to hear this ever again. Fred's got a Chrysler in his pants as big as a WHALE!
-
Proxy BOS (Best of Steven) for Ali.
Goin' dowwwwwwwwwwwn.

I met Peter Himmelman's bassist a long time ago, but don't know anything about this track, since I didn't hear it!

Kiss mah sassafr-ASS!
I was on the phone and came in in the middle of the guitar solo -- for a sec I thought it was Living Color, "Cult of Personality". Which might be waiting in the wings.

The track was "245 Days" & the bassist appears to be Al Wolovitch (per AMG).
-
Finally an actual song I can vote for BOS: "The Mayor of Simpleton"
re: the segue, is Dave suggesting that the Exxon Valdez disaster was caused by simpletons? Not much of a stretch.

I don't think I've heard this before then. Was it a KFOG-played song?
-
VHM XTC, but except for the Himmelman (new to me), Dave's running on fumes today. The second-most-repetitious year, I'd wager. And not a bad year for music, it's just we never hear most of it.
-
BOS for XTC, though not one of their best.
-
another usual '89 suspect: Todd w/Bobby.
-
and the winner of today's BOS voting is Todd!
(but I bet Jose votes for FYC)

I was in Isla Vista in '89, so that's where I heard it.

Who's Bobby?
-
BOS, SRV.
-
Alt-universe '89 set:
Back to Life (Soul II Soul)
Buffalo Stance (Neneh Cherry)
Walk the Dinosaur (Was Not Was)
Bust a Move (Young MC)
Cherish (Madonna)
Glamour Boys (Living Colour)
This Time I Know It's For Real (Donna Summer)
My Brave Face (Macca)
Me Myself & I (De la Soul)
One (Bee Gees)
or anything from Prince's Batman sndtk.

Who's Bobby?
Bobby Womack's on that song isn't he? Gaz, can you confirm or deny?

AMG sez you're right, but better yet, guess who gets a 'Choirmaster' credit?

None other than Narada Michael Walden!

Bonus: Replace-mats.
Guess Annalisa didn't want to play the Ramones 3 days in a row.

Hey Mike, 2 more posts & you'll be at 10101, which in binary is only 21.
That's not excessive.

Attribute that to the Marin County factor (Todd was living in Sausalito at the time, and this was recorded at Fantasy in Berkeley). Go thru the credits for Nearly Human and you'll find a whole raft of Bay area residents: Vince Welnick (post-Tubes, pre-GD), Keta Bill (post-Zasu Pitts), Scott Mathews (ex-Durocs), Bobby Strickland, Peter Apfelbaum, Rick Anderson (post-Tubes), and the entire roster of Bourgeois Tagg.
And the bass on one track is played none other than Randy Jackson, the guy who's now on Idol and was Journey's bassist around that time.
Had to pick up a pal at the airport so I missed the Colorado set entirely, but heard most of this one in the car en route back to SF. As you already determined, the local set was eminently missable. But I caught the last half of the Chicago 68 set--my first time ever tuning in to that iteration of 10@10.

3/29/06 - Wednesday! A good time was had by all in...1989!!
Chris Rea - The Road to Hell
Bob Dylan - Political World
Fine Young Cannibals - Don't Look Back
Roy Orbison - She's a Mystery to Me
Peter Himmelman - 245 Days
B-52's - Love Shack!
Aerosmith - Love in an Elevator
XTC - Mayor of Simpleton
Todd Rundgren - The Want of a Nail (B.O.S.!!)
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Crossfire
BONUS TRACK: The Replacements - Aching to Be
I think I'd have voted with DaveFish again today--XTC for BOS. We hear that Todd song pretty regularly I think.

that was my only vote as well, what I said about Todd was my (correct) prediction of the overall Foghead voting.
