I was thinking the same thing, mostly.  BOS for the intro (a la "Sweet Jane" or the middle of "My Sharona"), but not for the rest of the song.

Given the discussion this morning of Pat Benatar, I'm surprised he didn't dig out her version.

I was thinking of Sweet Jane, too.  Could we get a whole set's worth of songs with really long intros?

BOS #2 for Ian Gomm, for 2 reasons:  it's a real zeitgeist song for me & for the album title.  This was the summer I spent in Deustchland.

I think an entire set of "the loooooong version" is a great idea.

Ian Gomm, eh?  I was thinking it was a relatively obscure Greg Kihn song.

This was '79? I had it pegged for later.  Best Mondegreen of Set: "I know that the hippies' eyes never lie" (OK, it's more ambiguous on the Who's version.)

Ya know, I was thinking about Pete this morning -- I think a Who song was on the radio.  I know he was ultimately cleared, but I can't get the thought of what he DID do out of my mind.  I love the Who, but it's forever tainted now.  Damn.

I thought he was cleared also.  Aside from being a nasty alcoholic for a couple decades what else did he "DID do"?

Well in your defense he made bad puns on his surname on his album titles, just like Kihn always did.  In this case it was Gomm With The Wind, of course.

Right, and from what I read after the dust cleared this was upheld.  He has a foundation dedicated to helping abused children in the UK.  I know every politician who ever gets caught in a sting always claims that they were doing their own investigation & it's such a lame attempt at putting a spin on the situation, but once the sensationalism of PT's case subsided everything I read supported his contention, as unlikely as it must look.  If someone has any harder facts I'd love to know, I'm not saying this is definitive & if he really is guilty of Jacko syndrome then I'll stop defending him.

Title: Bring on the Night
Post by: mshray on March 14, 2006, 10:34:23 AM
Anyone else see the documentary from which this was taken?  There's one hysterical part of the dialog where Branford Marsalis, Sting & one of the other guys are debating the relative nuances & inflections of "motherfucker".

Branford:  Y'see down in Nawlins, we say 'motherfucker ' like this ....

ETA:  Now it came back to me more clearly:

Branford:  Y'see down in Nawlins, we'd say 'This song is a motherfucker'...
Sting (somewhat baffled): but that means you like it!?!?
Branford:  Hell yass, but see in New York we'd say 'This song is a motherfucker', and then that'd be different.

This always made me flashback on John Candy in Stripes telling the dumb guy how to bet his poker hand.  I could never tell if Branford was pulling Sting's leg or not.

BOS for "All I Ever Wanted".  Possibly the best Santana since "Everybody's Everything", and of course I have a soft spot for it 'cause it's an LSJUMB song.

Actually no.   Per AMG:

Marathon marked the addition of keyboard player Alan Pasqua and singer Greg Walker's replacement by singer/guitarist Alex Ligertwood in the Santana lineup. Otherwise, the album was notable for consisting entirely of band-written material.

Ligertwood has a 1/3 writing credit on this song as well.

Yer right.  Per AMG Rolie was on '72's Caravanserai & didn't return to the fold until '82's Shango.
