The power of positive thinking.
ETA: Wish it always worked that well.
Polk Salad Annie TOTHC--UNH!!!

Yay! '69! Instant BOS TJW, "PSA" Chomp Chomp!

a wretched... spiteful... straight-razor-totin' BOS!
-
VVHM Merry Clayton's backing vox on "Gimme Shelter".
-
I'll chime in a BOS to da Stones for Gimme Shelter. If anyone debates their status as the Worlds Greatest Rock Band at the time this was recorded, I submit this song.
-
And quickly followed by BOS2, for Oh Well. With that nifty middle part that was recycled in The Chain. (Proxy BOS for Geoff, too.)
-

key phrase there being: "at the time this was recorded"
"Oh Well", this is officially a '69 Katrina, great tho' it may be.

Have you heard the Leo Kottke version of this? It's fab.

Yes... there was also a rap version by some British outfit in the '80s. It wasn't fab.

Very observant. Certainly not today. Probably not since some time in the 70s. When that was exactly is open to debate.
"Oh Well", this is officially a '69 Katrina, great tho' it may be.
If that's the case, then I think Polk Salad Annie gets that label as well. Both great, both played fairly frequently when 69 comes up on the wheel.

"Everybody's 'trinin' at me". This is one of my all-time fave songs, but there needs to be a moratorium on it for a while. Sorry to wear the crankypants, but Dave falls back on way too many "old standbys" in his '68 & '69 sets.
Having said that, BOS2 Jr Walker. What a glorious single.
-
BOS1 to Jr. Walker and company. Anyone else hear a nick of Marty Balin in that line, "I tried, I tried, I tried, I tried"?
BOS2 to Merry Clayton; "Gimme Shelter" is also in my Stones Top 5 but I don't know if it would be without her frightening additions.
-
Lovely, listening but no time to post much.
Happy Friday!!!!!!
-
"Because" the LP is round, this gets BOS3. Flashing me back to autumn '69, freshman year of HS. Not exactly great memories.
-
BOS1 to Jr. Walker and company. Anyone else hear a nick of Marty Balin in that line, "I tried, I tried, I tried, I tried"?
uh... no.
VHM Tempts.

Happy Friday!!!!!!
Ditto! Happy Friday to all!
(And will be an even happier Friday if I get offered this job with JANE magazine that I interviewed/tested for this week. Should know by day's end. Will be Soul Spectruming later.)

I think we're on the same page here, then.
However, don't think this Temps tune gets quite that treatment.
BOS2 Can't Get Next to You.
ETA: Oops, that's BOS3. At least.
-
VHM for the temptin' Temptations! Anybody catch that biopic about them a few months back? Powerful sad stuff. Never knew they were so messed up.
-
bos to the spiral staircase drummer!
-

uh... no.
I'm serious! There are two people singing the line, and one of him has just that same aching timbre.
Meantime, BOS3 to the lovely horns and vox of the Spiral Starecase. Alas, t'was the horns that killed them; they couldn't find a brass section to tour, which killed their momentum.
-
bos to the spiral staircase drummer!
Yr right, I shouldn't have left him out. There can never be too much hi-hat.

No, but I'd love to hear more. Did it accuse David Ruffin of creating Tammi Terrell's tumor through a violent hit, as others have?

and speaking of Morey standbys: Spiral Starecase, glorious as it is.
"Why do they call 'em stairs? ya don't stare at 'em!"
-
BOS for Norman and Dustin!
-
VHM to the sexier-than-it-should-be "Time of the Season." Though I still don't know what the fuck that "who's yr daddy" thing's supposed to be about.
EDITED TO SAY: OK, not so much "supposed to be about," but more like, "dude, who the fuck do you think you are talking to her like that?"
-
bos to the spiral staircase drummer!
so... you never did tell me who you thought my avatar was?
BOS Jack Klugman.
-
vhm: who'syerdaddy!?!?

Dennis Weaver, as McCloud...

So that's twice in a row that Dave's resisted the urge to close a '69 with "Someday We'll Be Together." Progress!

Nope. I'm an idiot, it would seem. I was sure that was Norman Fell and Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate, but I was wrong. I admit it!

and no mention of Jose either
This morning they were having a discussion of Lent and the rules for fasting (Renee is being vegan for Lent). Dave said he had the right info because "I asked Raquel and Alejandro". And I yelled at the radio "why don'cha ask JOSE?"

I also see this as a zenith of sorts for the Stones, but point out there were other great bands around at the time too!

indeed -- this was a better-than average week, thanks to no '90s. I haven't done the Marathon in a while (I usually prefer waking up to KPIG on Saturday) but I'll listen this week.
