Title: 27 Jan 2006 -- a Classic "car songs" set
Post by: Alicat on January 26, 2006, 08:59:04 PM
See Dave's page, http://www.kfog.com/Programming/DaveMorey/default.asp
He lists the proposed set. Looks good to me.

addendum: studio issues, we get a classic

Sorry not to be overjoyed, but, Foghead-chosen sets generally don't float my boat, and from what I saw on Dave's blog ("Night Moves", Breakfast Club sndtk and Frampton Comes Alive) it's gonna be your basic the-suits-are-gonna-love-this-'cause-it's-all-hits set.

Sorry not to be overjoyed,

OK, I KNOW it's the Frampton.

Breakfast Club, Simple Minds, lyrics not thrilling but there's something about the tune I dig.

but but but..... you surely won't dis the Cat man?

he gets my advance BOS.  Love Lamp Chop, BTW.  That's taking me back to when I was five.  I watched Shari Lewis every Saturday morning.

Hate to rain on your parades, but they had a tech meltdown in the main studio yesterday & the Morning Show is being produced out of the basement today.  Dave just announced that we'll be having a classic & "When I Was 15" is postponed until Monday.

And I'll be in Reno on Monday.

D'oh. And I actually get to sit & listen to the show today. Oh, well. Not the end of the world.

In other news: Shake that ass, Diaz!

GAAH! The person I had to meet with today who I thought was sick so I wouldn't have to meet with suddenly showed up.

So, I must miss 10at10 again.

On the plus side- the person I have to meet with is the cute new employee we hired (when MY dept needs people? There's a hiring freeze. When the Indexing Dept loses an employee? Suddenly, we can hire again).

Oh, well. At least she's a cute redhead.

Have a great weekend everybody! Enjoy Reno on Monday, Mshray!

Hope she's not contagious. And you're only missing "car songs" so don't sweat too much--if this is the set I think it is, it ain't all that.

Have fun with the cute redhead Charlie Brown!

(and let us know how long it takes you to find out if she's a natural redhead.)

BOS for me, and IIRC, this really is the best song in the set.

VHM to Mick for screwing up the lyrics to "Route 66". "Don't forget Ih-noh-na"? Well, what does he know about the Southwest? He's a pasty-faced Brit.

Hey didja hear that little snippet of "Rocket 88"?  Acoording to most music historians that is the very first Rock 'N' Roll song.

Don't remember. If this is the set I think it is, I remember it got played when they did the Ten 10@10s for 10/10 in 2001. But I can't tell you much about it beyond that.

I think not, and we also haven't heard Hot Rod Lincoln yet, which I think is in.

ETA: As I thought...

It's got overdrive, just won't stall.

ETA2: okay, here's the Queen.  one out of two ain't bad.

any other rock songs with the word 'carbureuter' in it?

Now if only Dave would play The Go-Go's "Skidmarks On My Heart"

Turns out you were both right....very cool.

I'm In Love With My Car gets my BOS. Roger Taylor rules.

Hand in glove with my automo-love...

(Btw, the tech meltdown has resulted in DM not being logged into IM today either. Oh well.)

Woo-hoo!  My meeting's over. And, damn- she is cute. Wow- I may have found something I actually like about my job...

Naturally, I'm all- "So, do you live in SF?" "How long have you been here?" etc to see if she says "... my husband and I just moved here" or "my boyfriend and I" or "my girlfriend and I".

Cuz more often than not- the cute ones are smart enough to say that upfront so you'll leave them alone. She didn't mention any SOs.

So, she's either single or dumb. And even if she is dumb- she's hella cute (in that glasses-wearing librarian way, of course).

Anyhoo- BOS Queen!

they're BOTH in -- back-to-back (or bumper to bumper).

I remember when "Big 98" was doing their all-'70s format a dozen years ago, they refused to play "Hot Rod Lincoln" (their research, which was probably done in Kansas, told them it was a negative).  Someone called up to request it on an all-request weekend, and the jock actually took several minutes to make fun of the guy, and of course he didn't play it. And I'm yelling at the radio, "don't you know what a beloved song that is?"  And years later Dick Bartley confirmed that it was consistently one of his most-requested tunes.

No buzzer, no Don, I guess a lot of stuff can't be accessed from the basement. And Dave had to do a live read of the station ID that usually leads into the set.
