Title: 16 Jan 2006: The MLK set
Post by: RGMike on January 16, 2006, 09:57:28 AM
Not expecting any surprises, but it's certainly one of Dave's more heartfelt sets of the year.

sometimes it seems like history is just a big snake coiled on itself, and we are back in some obviously dark time, with obviously evil forces at work.

Sly oh My.  Is "Everyday People" substituting for "Stand" this year?  Or am I confused?

Yes, it seemed like I spoke too soon; he often seems to play Stevie at the end.

Enjoying the set, but not much time to post.  Glad Dave is throwing in lots of MLK clips.

Had lunch on Friday in Dallas with a gal from HP, we'd often communicated though email & occasionally by phone, so I was pretty sure she was black, but it was our first time to meet.  We had a really engaging conversation over a nice meal, didn't talk about anythingwork related.  When she was about 5 or 6 in the early 70's MLK Senior was a guest in her home & she still has a picture of herself with him that she treasures.

Hey, Dave is finally playing the live version of "Pride".  I've been calling him on this the last couple years.

The Edge!

ETA: Still wish U2 would get around to changing that one syllable tho'...

... should be "early evening", not "early morning"...

I don't think I heard that eros, philio, agape speech before.

I still have the first single version they released with a big MLK picture on the cover.  Great song.

Oh it's definitely one he plays every year.  Indeed not much changed this year -- and I know he's played the live "Pride" before, I distinctly remember either last year or the year before hearing the studio version during the moring show and wondering whether he'd play it a second time in the set.

Al Green live at RRHOF doing "A Change is Gonna Come"

Don't know about the live vs. studio versions of Pride..., but according to the Darryl database, we heard essentially the same set, at least musically, in 2003, 2005, and this year (he doesn't have the '04 set listed due to technical issues). And for this one day, I'm fine with that.

I figured out that I was in China last year at this time, so maybe my memory funstion isn't as impaired as I thought.

Did anyone archive this set or at least write down the set list somewhere?  Cuz we collectively forgot to post it from the KFOG page & now it's too late.

Thanks Urth!  I haven't checked Darryl lately, is he completely dependable now?  There were gaps here and there in earlier times.

Seems to be consistent for the last year or more. I think he's got a bot of some kind that automatically goes to the KFOG page and copies the entire text of the source page once a week. So long as KFOG doesn't mess with the URL he's been golden.

Yay Darryl. Have we tried to get him to post here?

Speaking of, I saw Lufaphs on the street this morning.

Oddly enough, I saw him Friday while I was out in front of my office having a smoke....
