Title: Monday Dec 19--today's classic--1988

This does not bode well for the next two weeks.

Any idea if Dave went home to the midwest, or to Hawaii again?

He had Midwesterners in town for Turkey day, so I'm betting he's somewhere sunny.  I may well bail before this is over. '88 not a fave year for anyone here.

ETA: speaking of annoying Clapton, here's "After Midnight".  Ah, here's Icehouse, "Electric Blue". This may actually make me stay for one more song.

And to carry on the thread from one of the other timezones, here's my least fave Clapton song: the remade version of After Midnight. Yes, the Michelob factor has something to do with that, I'm sure.

My fave Clapton tunes?

Similar to Gaz's I think, mostly from Layla:

Bell Bottom Blues
Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad
Tell the Truth
Let It Rain
Further On Up the Road

"She's a hairhopper, that's what she is". BOS Divine.  The theme song from Hairspray, sung by the great Rachel Sweet, is one of the great lost singles of the '80s.

Yikes, Escape Club. Think I'll make MY escape.

the line, according to Top 40 db is "sheriff's on the airwaves talking to the D.J.'s".  At the time I thought they were saying "Cher is on the airwaves..."

The REM tune (Gardening at Night, for those keeping score at home) sounded really good, but the only way it qualifies in 1988 is on their IRS best-of, Eponymous. Otherwise, it was originally released in 82 on Chronic Town.

VHM to Nothing but Flowers, Talking Heads channeling Paul Simon's African ensemble from Graceland.

Great (and not improbable) mondegreen, though!

(Could also be a nod to Sheriff, the "When I'm With You" one-hit-wonders, but that would be improbable.)

Title: Top 5 Clapton Cuts
Post by: ggould on December 19, 2005, 04:40:10 PM
as far as Layla goes, only the first few cuts are just Clapton:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derek_&_the_Dominos#The_Layla_album

So, I picked one of those, seeing as I feel Duane's influence is so transcendant on the rest of the tracks.

Here's my iMix url:
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPublishedPlaylist?id=614120

I would have chosen something from the 30th Anniversary Dylan Concert, "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right," but the iTunes store doesn't have it

All Your Love   3:36   John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers   Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton
Spoonful (Live)   16:46   Cream   Wheels of Fire
Let It Rain   5:01   Eric Clapton   Eric Clapton
Keep on Growing   6:22   Derek & The Dominos   Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot   3:33   Eric Clapton   There's One in Every Crowd
