A birthday request from Foghead Adrianne Marcus. Which, coincidentally, is my mother-in-law's name, but she wasn't born in 66. And it's not her birthday.
ETA: TOTHC is Little Latin Lupe Lu, a song I once saw Bruce Springsteen cover.
-
Yo Adrian!!! Foghead Adrian Marcus takes us to his birth year!
My son's name, fwiw, is Adrian Mark Schroeder.
-
uh... I knew someone named Adrian when I was a kid and, uh, I know a coupla Marks... which sounds like "Marcus".

Bobby Fuller rules.

This song makes me wonder HOW GOOD the Beach Boys could have sounded if they'd had a producer like George Martin.
-
Any guesses as to who the "black power" speech was? Mike would probably know, but I'm gonna say Eldridge Cleaver or Bobby Seale.
-
BOS - Yardbirds ... still sounds good!
-
Where's Mike when we need him? These last two songs are stumping me--the first one I know I've heard ("they make a boy and girl say they feel so fine") but the second one ( a very white-bread vocal group singing "No body but you") is a total stumper.
Now this I can relate to: Shapes of Things, the Yardbirds.
-
In the R'n'R HoF they have an interactive computer-based feature on the "500 Songs That Shaped Rock & Roll". "Shapes of Things" was the sole Yardbirds entry. I was quite disappointed that "Heart Full of Soul" wasn't included.

Oops... correction: BOS - Beatles, BOS2 - Yardbirds
-
The first 10@10 Xmas recognition of 05: the 66 Beatles fan club recording (Everywhere it's Christmas) followed by Got to Get You Into My Life.
-
BOS Yay! the Beatles. anytime they get their horn sections gong it's a good thing.
anyone know which of the Fabs was most into horns? Guessing Paul, but don't really know.

My guess is George (Martin) :)

I've already forgotten hearing those. Not much help.

Speaking of Christmas music, I was listening to the KFOG christmas feed yesterday. Very nice. I even liked Coldplay's gender reversed cover of the Pretender's "2000 Miles"

Something else from the mid 60's that you don't hear so much anymore: organs as the lead instrument.
BOS #4 "96 Tears"
-
scorekeeping:
Baby, It's Alright (?)
96 Tears
Monday, Monday
-
and yet another, 4-part harmonies!
"Monday, Monday" hasn't sounded this good to me in a long time.
-
a very white-bread vocal group
I bet that's what it actually says in the dictionary when you look up The Turtles.
-
Revisionism: the whitebread group was the Turtles, and But It's Alright was J.J. Jackson. Missed the one before the Turtles. Mea culpa.
-
Damn -- as usual I miss the best set of the week. Looking forward to tonite's replay.
Nobody knew JJ Jackson? For shame! (Not the same JJ Jackson from MTV, tho' for years I thought it was.)
-
Hollies "Bus Stop" for the bonus track, but even better, they played the semi-long version of "Thick As A Brick" in between. I have never heard KFOG do that outside of Dave's sets before.

I heard it last Monday night, around 7:45. I think Big Rick is on vacay this week, so whoever's filling in must have played it.

I miss the good ones!

As usual, George proved himself a good follower: The chart on "Savoy Truffle" is one of my favorite uses of horns on a Beatles record.
P.S. Glad I missed the Turtles' "You Baby." Love the band, hate that song.

have I already told the Stax story of how the Beatles were rumored to be planning to record in Memphis around the time of Revolver? Coulda/shoulda/woulda been the Memphis horns and/or Booker T & the MGs on GTGYIMY.
A wonderful set, hard to pick a BOS -- I'm tempted to say 9-way tie, leaving out the Ms&Ps, 'cause frankly I could go without hearing "Monday Monday" for a good long time. But certainly the Deon Jackson (no relation to JJ) gets Best Semi-Obscurity, a lovely record and certified Carolina Beach Music classic.
