There are a lot of 80's movies I love, so this could be fun. He promised obscure tunes from the songs. I have no idea how the TOTHK "Late in the Evening" relates to the first movie: Airplane. But I'm looking forward to the rest. Hope to hear some punk from Repo Man.

Let's see, ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Heavy Metal...just speculating so far.
So DW says we'll hear ads for blockbusters and songs from some more eclectic offerings. Fingers crossed!
(Ad: Airplane!)
1. Paul Simon - Late in the Evening
-
I guess he's playing songs from movies other than the one featured in the clip, since Stripes was followed by "Heavy Metal". Slightly perplexed.

Late in the Evening wasn't related to Airplane, it was in Simon's vanity film project, One Trick Pony. Which I never saw in a theater.

2. Don Felder - Heavy Metal

Continuing the the theme, Blade Runner followed up with a song I've never heard before, which appears to be "Cool Rider" from Grease 2, by Michelle Pfeiffer (!). Holy obscurity, Batman!

Eclectic, yes. Heavy on the cheeze factor, too.
-
(Ad: Jaws 3D)
4. Lindsey Buckingham - Holiday Road (National Lampoon's Vacation)
More cheeze, in the ad this time.
I realized a song or two back, there's a Vertical Tasting spin to this set, too. The ads and the song that follows are both from films released the same year. so this is '83.

Ya, there was no secret about the Verticality.
No clue about the movie association of The Fixx - Deeper and Deeper (?).
-
(Ad: Gremlins, 1984)
5. The Fixx -- Deeper and Deeper (Streets of Fire)
I confess I had to look to see what movie the song was from.
Was Heathers a summer release? Some good songs in there.
-
(Ad: Back to the Future, 1985)
6. Pat Benatar - Invincible (from The Legend of Billie Jean)
I see what he did there, a song from a movie that was based on another song from 4 years earlier written by an entirely different artist.
I concede this one qualifies as a rarity, I'm having a hard time calling it "eclectic" however.
-
No clue on the Pat Benetar tune (Invincible?). Ditto the Queen song. Is it from Flash Gordon?
ETA: Nope, since FG was 1980.

The Queen song is from Iron Eagle, a movie I have no recollection of. And the clip was from Big Trouble in Little China. (Again, I'm cribbing these factoids from the Soundwaves list.)
Good song though. Likely a BOS candidate for my money.

Oh, I feel better then. :) But where is this list? I wouldn't want to see it yet, but I didn't know it exists.

They post it on the page for that day's set, below the player. But to avoid spoilers, it's posted in white text on a white background, so you have to highlight the text to read it. Very crafty.

Clever!
Enjoying "Jump in the Line - Harry Belafonte", but not ringing a bell movie-wise.

Last one sounds like Prince, among others. Weird Batman stuff.

Yep. The last ad was from Ghostbusters 2 (another sequel that probably shouldn't have happened) and the last song was Prince's Batdance from the first Batman film (was that the Michael Keaton one?)

10. Prince, Batdance – Batman (1989)

I actually saw Jaws 3D in a theater, during the brief '80s revival of 3-D. Wore the glasses. Terrible movie, hokey use of the process (like squirting the liquid from a hypodermic needle at the audience). One critic said "the director of this film has a future in porn."
