Trying to do real time again... Happy Friday everybody!
-
Well, that mystery ended pretty quick - though Electric Ladyland came out late in '68 so it could be '69.
1 - Jimi Hendrix, All Along the Watchtower
-
Walter Cronkite reporting on the assassination of MLK Jr ---> 2. The Beatles "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
Definitely 1968.
-
Okay, definitely 1968 - MLK assassinated.
That was part of last night's Final Jeopardy - when Obama was sworn in they used two bibles, Lincoln's and this man's, who died 103 years after Lincoln.
But really, if your going to have a mystery year, you should have at least a "bit" of suspense.
2 - The Beatles, While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Agreed. Folks would be happy for a '60s Friday set anyway... :)

I wonder if we loaded up at the same time and are in sync...

What was the soundbite prior to this? I was half-listening at that point...
ETA: It was apparently Jerry Garcia...

Me too. I have to at least pretend to work some of the time. 8)

Mixcloud crashed on me, but I'm back. Was choppy all through Mrs. Robinson, then just crashed during the planet of apes clip.

Elvis '68 Comeback Special "Are we on TV? No we're no a train headed for Tulsa..." into a live "Heartbreak Hotel" ---> 6. The Union Gap featuring Gary Puckett "Young Girl" (backed by The Wrecking Crew)
-
7. Aretha Franklin "I Say A Little Prayer"
-
RFK assassinated ---> 8. Rascals "People Got To Be Free"
-
The Odd Couple "It's not spaghetti, it's linguine" ---> 9. Jeannie C. Riley "Harper Valley P.T.A."
-
10. Stevie Wonder "For Once In My Life"
-
Hmmm, BOS The Beatles. WMGGW has pretty much settled into one of my personal top 5 spots of greatest songs ever - especially with all the great covers.
Not the most adventurous set ever, to put it lightly. But for a first visit to '68, a wonderful collection of songs.

Missed listening in real time, had a phone meeting Friday am. But I fully agree with the above. No bad songs, but when the closest thing to a rarity is Gary Puckett's Young Girl, we're not digging too deep. Altogether a pleasant set, hope he gets more into the catalog as this goes on.
