followed by "Mellow Galoot" .
-
yahooooooooo, it's '72!
-
They say that Gary Glitter is a bad mother...
-
OMG! the Sharks just scored a goal! BOS Gary Glitter!
-
It's... that... song. That song you hear at football games! Na-na-na, nana-na-na- HEY!
ETA: Gary Glitter. Got it!

It's a glam-rock twin-spin! T Rex into Gary Glitter--shall we cue the David Essex or the Bowie?

anything but "All the Young Katrinas".
But Elton counts, no?

In '72? Yeah, probably. He was glammier a year later, but I expect he was heading that way by '72. Was this from Honky Chateau or Don't Shoot Me...?
-
Al Green, Badfinger, Chicago, Neil Young...
such a fine year

Elton was very glam at this time.
-
BOS for TOP. When the horn players go "down on their knees" (actually only one knee), the crowd goes wild. Or at least the crowd when I saw them.

"Don't Shoot Me..." I believe. Of course, sequins are one thing -- crocodile costumes are a whole 'nuther animal, as it were.

We're treading close to 10-way tie territory, but if I had to pick one of the 5 so far, this'd be it. Horn players gotta stick together. And the TOP horns are the best.
-
VHM Popcorn
-
AHHHH! "Popcorn"! I'll be hearing this in my head all day now! AHHHH!

I'll second that BOS
and a VHM to Hot Butter. I thought "quad" didn't happen until '74?
-
Hot Butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
must.. drive... earworm... from... my.. head...
Na-na-na-nana nana-na-na HEY!
-
Hot Butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had this LP at my college station. It included their take on the old chestnut "Syncopated Clock", which became the theme music for my overnight prog-rock show, which was titled "The Late Show" (long before Letterman).
-
VVHM for Allman Brothers. And here's your Bowie, in a non-Katrina, but most glam, incarnation.
-
Someone order some glammy Bowie? Where ya want it?
-
and the inevitable Bowie. It's a rare '72 set that doesn't include something from "Ziggy".
-
Y'know, to me, Ziggy Stardust is another of those "perfect" albums they were bandying about this morning, so why the hell do we always hear the same three songs on 10@10? C'mon--Five Years fer cryin out loud. Starman is great too, but it's nearly the Katrina that ATYD is.
-
... and all the children boo-gay....
-

if this set were any glammier it'd be wearing mascara & blush.
-
BOS Angela Davis.
Still rings true today.
-
Run Run Run from Angela's gun?

yeah nice quote... but guns in the courtroom is a grey area for me.
-
Very tasteful end (?) with Aretha.
-
look at my mind... floating away... BOS ReeRee!

I enjoyed that discussion immensely, and even perversely enjoyed the woman who called in to vote for Foreigner IV & The Immaculate Collection.
After Renee said Beggar's Banquet & someone else said Let It Bleed, I wrote the following email:
"I think the Rolling Stones basically made 4 perfect albums in a row, so you gotta add Exile On Main Street & Sticky Fingers.
A perfect album for candlelit romance is Avalon. If you can't seduce someone with that album on, then frankly they couldn't be seduced.
And a perfect, if not THE perfect live album is Waiting For Columbus."

Agreed. Where "R&R Suicide?" Or "Star?"

Aretha's end is a bit too large to be tasteful
-
That set was glaaamtastic.
-
That set was glaaamtastic.
and with '72 on a Thursday... what could be in store for Friday? a rare trip to '67? Sadly, I'll miss tomorrow twice (10am meeting, and Fri nite I'm seeing Walk the Line).

you'll hate Mr Glitter even more when you read this:

Alas, I'll miss the first airing (10am meeting) myself. But, "cool" for seeing Walk The Line on Friday! Enjoy.

I'll be list'nin' in the car (if the signal holds) on my way to Sacto for a lunch meeting. On the way back I have to go take the Anheuser-Busch brewery tour in Fairfield. Have to. As part of my job. Really. No kidding.

As did I. Totally agreed with the PD when he mentioned Stevie Wonder's early-mid 70s trilogy (Talking Book/Innervisions/Fulfillingness). I tried to get thru to mention Richard and Linda Thompson's Shoot Out the Lights, but just got a busy and didn't have time to dial repeatedly. But it certainly is. Perfect, that is.

It's very cool... and the JellyBelly tour is just down the road from there.

So Annalisa's quiz was THE classic Shelley Winters clip from Poseidon Adventure, y'know, "in the water I'm a VERY skinny lady". You had to identify her -- first caller says, "is it Daryl Hannah?" (Ms H was, what? 11 years old in 1972?)
Who ARE these freakin' people?
nice Bonus, tho': "Celluloid Heroes".

Right after Thanksgiving I have to go to Shanghai to help wrap up our deal to sell A-B labels for the Chinese version of Budweiser (Bai Wei). I'll be hanging with the guy who reports to Prse. August A. Busch V. So a brewery tour is a business expense for me now!
-
Clueless Foghead alert! For the bonus track you had to identify the clip from The Poseidon Adventure in which Shelley Winters says, "See Mr. Scott! In the water I'm a very skinny woman. Hack! Agggghhh! Hu-aahhhh! [collapses]."
The first caller (female) guessed, "Darryl Hannah????"
Sure Mme. Curie, you betcha. That sounded just like an 11 year old girl to me, too.

clueless Foghead/Skinny Lady/11-years-old JINX!!!

(Ms H was, what? 11 years old in 1972?)
Good guess. I looked it up, she turned 12 on Dec 3 of '72.
I knew somebody else had to be taken aback by that caller. How much you wanna bet she's a blonde?

Ooh! She shares a birthday with my mom! (Who was most decidedly *not* 12 in 1972, I hasten to add.)
And Mark, between these stories and your chauffeur experiences, you have just about the most intriguing work history of anyone I've ever known.

Years ago I was on a business trip and did the Bud tour. St. Louis I think. Same trip I saw a ballgame with McGuire playing. Fun tour. There was a tasting room at the end and I remember having hard lemonade. I went back to staff a booth at a convention hall, a bit tipsy.
