Well since Urth had the lightning fingers to beat me out of posting Thursday's topic, and since I'll be up in the mountains tomorrow morning, my only consolation is kicking off this thread.
Somebody better archive it for me. Probably this 1971 set as well. I won't get back until Sat night, so I'll miss the replay & the marathon.

So I emailed Dave with 3 suggestions:
Barbara Acklin, "Love Makes a Woman" (which he still owes me from my birthday)
Staple Singers "Heavy Makes You Happy"
Aretha, "Don't Play that Song"
Of the 3, the Staples is the only one he's played before, and I'm betting it shows up as either TOTHC or Super Hit Six.
-
Here's what I sent him:
Curtis Mayfield-Freddie's Dead (preferably the full 5:29 version, not the single edit)
The Dramatics-Whatcha See is Whatcha Get
Joe Simon-Drowning in the Sea of Love
Stylistics-Betcha By Golly Wow

Dave sez this is a "perfect set"--hope he's not just saying that....
And off to a fine start indeed: Give up the Funk (tear the roof off the sucker!)--I've had this song in my head most of the week.
Gonna turn this mutha out...!
ETA: (Btw, DM also said the complete list of requested songs is posted on his blog page. I'm going to resist the urge to look until the set is over, just so my mood isn't spoiled by some of the inane foghead requests.)

Hey when did you email your suggestions? they're not in the list on Dave's blog. Mine are, tho' -- and as predicted, here come the Staples. Sha-na-boom-boom, yeah!

This is why I didn't make any requests. Not my area of expertise. A foghead should know his limitations...

BOS Isley. It's Yo' Thang, Baby! Instant flashback to Easter vacation 1969.
-
BOS2 JB. UGNH! I used to think he was saying "I just want to satisfy your boss". LOL!

given his current condition, it'd be kinda hard for him to make you do much of anything  But oh that voice!

Annalisa's trivia question: Who hosted Soul Train? Well, duh! it was Yukon Cornelius! (I'm tempted to call just to tell her Don Cornelius was a big ol' 'mo.)
-
TANC: Annalisa's Bonus is Carl Carlton, "Bad Mamma Jamma", and I posted on Dave's blog the suggestion that the time has come for an all-'80s SP.

I had never heard this before. But I gather that, like any other Mama Jama, he's built, he's stacked.

Don't know if you remember a singer from the early '80s named O'Bryan (had quite a few hits on the soul chart, only one of which crossed over pop)... anyway he was Cornelius's, er, "protege" and also his boyfriend from what I've heard.

kind of hard to go against Jackie Wilson. Those opening guitar chords just shout out the joy.

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman."

(P.S. I couldn't find this guy on the All Music Guide. Got any song titles for me to look up?)

"The Gigolo" (how appropriate), 1982, #5 R&B; and "Lovelite", 1984, #1 R&B, were his 2 biggest. He had 9 R&B charters in all, but "Gigolo" was the only one to chart pop.
