Title: 23 Nov 2015: it's... 1993
Post by: RGMike on November 23, 2015, 08:52:00 AM
I'll predict a '90s day in hopes of being wrong. Be nice if this was a '90s/'70s/2 theme sets/and an '80s rerun on Fri kinda week.

And it's 1993, staring with Stereo MC's "Connected" which is pretty damn LN-y to my ears.

ETA: altho' it's been 10 weeks since we last visited '93, and that was an "encore"

Bonnie Raitt/John Prine live, "Angel from Montgomery". One for the old-school Fogheads. VHM.

Overall the set hasn't knocked me out, but points for the U2 tune and I'm willing to grant some slack for the Counting Crows tune as it's not one that we hear much (if ever). Not going so far as to give it a BOS but a VHM is workable.

"Livin' in a van down by the river..." --> Afghan Whigs "Debonair". A rarity if not a biustout.

Actually, it has 3 previous unique appearances (one which was repeated recently.) But always welcome to hear.

One that I don't remember from the year -- dunno who was playing it in '93. Certainly not KFOG. Live 105?

It does seem that we've been getting more of these lately. Never really minded an LN or two as long as we get some new blood (and, one might argue, an LN might even be ironically necessary, in order to 'ground' a set).

we heard the Duran earlier this year (that was its first appearance). It does show up in KFOG rotay, tho',  which is why it seemed familiar to me. But the other four, yeah. So from that standpoint, a nice effort, even if the choices didn't individually float my particular boat.

Agreed. In a set full of FF’s, most all are LN’s...but in a well-rounded set, a FF is not necessarily synonymous with an LN.

8. Smashing Pumpkins - Today

Heard again this morning at 6:05. I hate it when that happens.
