I crunched my files and found that over years, seventy different artists/groups have been
featured on the various local music 10@10s. So there's plenty of selections remaining for
this show and even a fifth next week. As previously mentioned, Santana still hasn't been
played; I'm hoping to hear two of my favorite underrepresented groups: Hot Tuna and
The New Riders of the Purple Sage. (Is it too much to hope for something other than
Water Song and Panama Red?)

So many great choices!
Just off the top of my head, without thinking about it too much, I'd go with Whatcha Gonna Do (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqMf5oloEBA)
for the New Riders, and Sea Child (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65uA4JjZA0U) for Hot Tuna (which CapnJack covered in one of his 1972 sets).

TOTHK: Steve Miller Band - Livin' in the USA
2. Boz Scaggs - Jump Street
One of the deeper cuts from Silk Degrees, dare I even say possibly a bustout? Nice transition, too, given Boz's history with Steve Miller.
-
funny segue from the "we all drive hybrids" South Park clip to Hagar the Horrible's "Can't Drive 55"
-
(South Park clip: The Broflawskis move to SF, meet the neighbors)
3. Sammy Hagar - I Can't Drive 55
(Loma Prieta earthquake clip)
4. Ronnie Montrose - Town Without Pity
Another pair of songs by musicians who had worked together previously. So can we expect a Journey/Santana two-fer?
-
BOS, Montrose, Town Without Pity.
-
quake/"San Francisco" --> Michael Franti.
-
what's that smell like fish, oh baby? Must be Tuna.
-
5. Spearhead -
San Francisco Sound of Sunshine
6. Hot Tuna - Keep on Truckin'
-
it's a dischead twin-spin! Hot Tuna/New Riders. Obvious choices for each, but hey.
-
7. NRPS - Panama Red
Pretty much the go-to New Riders tune, but nice to hear now and again.
-
5. Spearhead - San Francisco
actually the Franti song is "Sound of Sunshine"
-
are you gonna be there at the love-in?? Best Mick Jagger imitation evah.
-

actually the Franti song is "Sound of Sunshine"
Duly noted, correction made.
-
8. Chocolate Watchband - Are You Gonna Be There (At the Love-in)
9. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Love Burns
-
we heard "We Care a lot" quite recently, no? Roddy Bottum -- one of my fave names ever.
-
(Bill Graham clip) >
10. Faith No More - We Care A Lot
So one more Local Music Monday next week?

So one more Local Music Monday next week?
I hope so. These last 2 especially have been quite enjoyable. Along with that '73 set, the highlights of the month.
-

yup -- in an '87 set in July.
annnnnd... "Budapest" is an instant tune-out. Ugh.
-
7. NRPS - Panama Red
Pretty much the go-to New Riders tune, but nice to hear now and again.
I agree, but I've been listening to a lot of New Riders lately and re-discovering lots
of great material -- songs that would very likely be enjoyed by many KFOG listeners.
NRPS's Garden of Eden (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnYcrPR9nUM) would be perfect for an Earth Day set.
The severely limited playlists that are pandemic among radio stations these days reduce
too many artists with catalogues full of good material to mere one-hit wonders.
