Title: Thursday 10/27 - it's 1976 on KBCO (I think)

They were just playing that D.J. Harry song that KFOG played about twice, before they went to commercial.  I kinda like it.

My stream went out right as Ginger got started & when it popped back I missed the year.  But I think this Clapton is from '76.

KFOG still has that song in rotation, no? I find it kind of annoying, so I always notice when they play it.

Okay, "got a case o' dynamite" confirms it.

Maybe Ginger will play "Shake Some Action"?

"...just like the mighty dread..."

BOS Marley!

and now Ginger, like Bob, dips into Fly Like An Eagle, but opts for the title track instead of "Take The Money & Run".

Others may not dig this, but I think it's pretty cool that Ginger 'bookends' the first half with Clapton & J.J. Cale.

Ditto!

Hearing Southside Johnny alsways reminds me of my friend Brent Horine.  When I was 15, just after my Sophmore year, I & a couple other kids from my high school were given a chance to attend a leadership seminar for a week at an outlying college campus, with kids from various area high schools in attendance.  I was surprised to have been selected because I was a real outcast/loner in HS at that time.  The other guys from my school all hung out together & got stoned a lot (I learned this after), but I made 3 really good friends from other schools that week, one of whom was my first girlfriend.  Brent & I were each on our HS Cross Country teams, so we met while out for a run, but really Brent was the first friend I ever made through music.  I had just started listening to FM radio/album rock & was mostly into prog rock.  Until I met Brent it never occurred to me that anyone else in St. Louis actually liked ELP.  Certainly no one in my class did.  Brent was a year ahead of me & worked at his HS radio station (which was the biggest HS in StL county at that time), so he had all kinds of stuff that I hadn't yet been exposed to.  First & foremost he had all of Southside Johnny's LP's & professed to like him better than Springsteen (an argument one couldn't really make 6 months later, but in early '78 it was still possible to say this with a straight face).  We stayed good friends through the next couple of years and into college.

Just popped in in time to catch the Armatrading cut, but am quite digging the Tommy Bolin cut--Sweet Burgundy. Doubt if I've heard this since college.

That was nice.  I was unaware he was even still alive then.

The answer to Ginger's question is Deep Purple, right?  I thought he OD'd right after that, in '75.

Indeed, the first 3 LPs (all Little Steven productions?) are gems, and were HUGE on NYC FM radio.  Saw them perform several times (once in Central Park with Rachel Sweet opening).  Those were the days you could be on a major label and still be a "regional" act -- and actually sell a decent amount of records.

According to Allmusic, he died Dec. 4, 1976.  "Sweet Burgundy" is on Private Eyes, which came out in '76.  I have the cd and it's one I listen to in it's entirety quite often...

Rod, one of these days you're gonna have to let me invite myself over to your house with my laptop so I can rip a big pile of your CD's.  What would it take?  A homemade cheesecake?  A fifth of bourbon?  Single malt?  I'm serious.

No problem.  I am almost always a couch potato on Saturdays.  We can pick one, and you can come on over.  Just need to remember to bring home the ones still at the office (including the Tommy Bolin).

I drink Irish whiskey (Jameson's, preferrably).
