our "good" day for the week. Thread's up.
-
Some guy requested David Essex "Rock On" and said "best jeans commercial EVER!" -- I think he's thinking of David Dundas. :)

I saw that, too. I can see Rock On being used for almost ANY commercial, actually.

With Sixties officially dead on KFOG, I was scrolling thru the "other" 10@10s last nite and it would appear that The Drive, The Sound and The Peak are pretty much the only ones still doing '60s sets (the Peak did '65 today, tho' it was a tad on the obvious side with both "Help" and "Satisfaction" in the mix). Wonder how long those will last.
-
Come on, Britney -- you're holding up 10@10.
-
da Feats with an Atlantan TOTHK.
-
a snipey request: Stones, "Dance Li'l Sistah". BOS1.

Can't imagine who in the GS community would request this... ;)
-
Good Times --> "Rock the Boat".
-
Neil Young from the wrong year -- jeebus, really, AL? "When You Dance ..." would be a BOS in 1970.

wow, way off.
-
more Good Times --> "Same Old Song & Dance".
-
Patty Hearst --> "Rebel Rebel". Heh.
-
AL's fave Young Frankenstein clip --> Roxy Music "Thrill of it All" A nice rarity and BOS2 from me.
-
Madeline Kahn, Young Frankenstein > Roxy, The Thrill of It All
Here's our rarity for today. BOS1. Or maybe 2.
-
wow, FAB-YOO-LUSS Roxy Music cut. "The Thrill Of It All"
AL posted this video last night on Facebook. Thought it was a tease, but she came through.
ETA: I'm wrong about Robben Ford, he came along later.

I always liked Phil Manzanera in a David Gilmour sort of way.
-
obvious Joni: "Help Me".
-
I've been holding out for some Mars Hotel, even if it's a FF, so my provisional BOS will have to go to Joni. This is a great record, an early mix of folk, jazz, rock.
-
more Madeliene Kahn (this time from Blazing Saddles) --> "Whatevah Gets You Thru da Nite"
-
GI Joe with Kung-Fu grip --> what else? Carl Douglas.
-
as usual, not terrible but rather disappointing considering the requests posted.

Agreed. If it weren't for "that voice", I'd vote for Roxy Music for BOS. But I'll have to go with the Stones.
WOS, Kung Fu Fighting.

not sure I get this... you DON'T like Bryan Ferry's voice?
I'll go Roxy BOS

That's something Geoff wrote, but he edited my post instead of his own... But now I can't find his original post. It must've gotten deleted by mistake. He must be on the Decaf.

Embarrassing, isn't it? Yes, I was talking about the Joni LP, but in my travels to find the truth, it just got all screwed up, I had to hit the road, so I just deleted my original stupid comment, but you guys are too quick! What's the time analogous to the '5 second rule' in postings? How quickly must I just erase my tracks before I have to explain my errors?

With Sixties officially dead on KFOG
"Officially?" As in, a statement made by a KFOG employee with either the knowledge or the authority
to know for certain?

"Apparently" might be a better word for it. Last new Sixties set was in April (1968), and then there was an encore of another '68 set on Memorial Day. I'd also remind you that there was a period in the early 2000's (02-03 maybe?) where there were no 60s sets for *months* on end but eventually they came back into the rotation. So as Deborah Iyall sings, Never Say Never.

It would be nice if that happened but this is essentially coming from 'snipes who are closer to AL than you or I. Given that what few '60s songs were in regular KFOG rotay are also gone (buh-bye, "Honky Tonk Women"), it seems like truth to me. (the oldest song being played currently is "Space Oddity" which while orig released in '69, is a '73 hit as far as Americans are concerned.)

It occurs to me we'll never get "official" confirmation of this, as one generally only uses negatives in statements about
one's product in conjunction with undesirable aspects, not desirable ones. Thus, "no more commercials!" but not
"no more great sixties music!"
The wheel turns, and many of the people responsible for running KFOG (and in radio generally) weren't even born in
the sixties.

I am even farther away from the inner circle, but that's what this has smelled like.

Hmmm, KFOG hasn't posted the setlist from Friday's '74 set...
