Title: The Drive, 10/26/05: 1982
Post by: RGMike on October 26, 2005, 08:07:03 AM
Bob's '80s sets tend to be as rote as Dave's.  Sure enough, we start with Tom Petty followed by Donald Fagen.

Though I'm not a fan of it, I'd hardly call "Athena" rote.     :P

Dave (and KFOG as a whole) plays it often enough.  But -- what's this? -- "Up Where We Belong"!  Good lawd, kudos for Bob for daring to play what for many in his target demo is probably a HFH.

I like Bob's customized-for-the-WS references to the ChiSox and As's.

"Oh yeah, life goes on..."

You beat me to that.  I hate the clipped, warbly voice of Jennifer Warnes but I'll give a BOS vote just on principle.  Now, if Dave one-ups Bob by playing "Never Gonna Let You Go" in his next '83 set, then we're on to something!

Another risk-taking maneuver from Bob with another potential HFH, "Eye of the Tiger."

"It's the rye or the kaiser, it's the thrill of one bite ..."

and followed by Asia, no less.  A HFH twofer, as far as I'm concerned.

the consensus on Ms Warnes back then was "boy, she sounds just like Linda Ronstadt". Discuss.

Ain't nothin' like the real thing, baby.  (Though La Linda made a disaster of "Heat Wave.")

Today's trivia question on the Drive's site is "Which ex-Beatle recorded the LP All Things Must Pass?"

84% guessed George.  Who the hell are those other 16%???

OK, you asked for it:

(At least I know Mark will dig this. The product of a digital animator with too much time on his hands.)

In case anyone wondered: I turned the Drive on after the Chisox won the clincher, and they celebrated with EJ's "Take Me to the Pilot."  Um - interesting choice!

They should've digitally inserted the words "White Sox" into Steve Goodman's "A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request". LOL!
