Title: 29 June 2015: it's... 1978
Post by: RGMike on June 28, 2015, 09:19:44 PM
AL's at the Dead show, so not expecting a thread.

ETA: an all-Dead themed set? Nah....

but a Dead-active year it is -- '78 begins with "Fire on the Mountain"

No complaints so far: a little-played (in terms of 10@10) GD tune, a haaaaaay! moment, and Respect-a- bowl! BOS1, 2 & 3.

I've probably heard "H'wood Nites" a few too many times to be excited about it today.

I think it's from the movie Stop Making Sense, like 83 or so?

I can't hear this song without thinking of a my first time going to Wrigley Field. They played this between innings and there was this little old lady usher doing the YMCA letters. Somehow I doubt she got all the implications.

Yay! Ramones cover of "Needles and Pinza"  BOS2.  This seemed rather Dave Morey-on-autopilot to my ears, the Siouxie bustout notwithstanding.

so, when we start the week with '70s, is there nowhere to go but down? We could go '90s/'80s/'00s followed by something patriotic on Friday for the holiday.  (This all assumes that '60s sets have truly been banished, which is the scuttlebutt in Snipeland).

6/29/15 Some of the greats in..... 1978
1. Grateful Dead - Fire on the Mountain
2. Peaches & Herb - Shake Your Groove thing
(TV: Cone Heads SNL)
3. The Rolling Stones - Respectable
(News: Keith Richards Suspended Sentence)
4. Bob Seger - Hollywood Nights
5. Sioxsie & The Banshees - Hong Kong Garden
6. Talking Heads - Take Me to the River
(News: SF Pride)
7. Village People - YMCA
8. Warren Zevon - Lawyers, Guns and Money
(TV: Fantasy Island)
9. Jay Ferguson - Thunder Island

[editing note:  besides removing the extra carriage return between each line, #8 had "title - artist" instead of "artist - title" the rest were reported in.  With all the copy editors in this group, I don't know what's proper, I just thought it should be ordered.]

Today's bust-outs:

1. Grateful Dead - Fire on the Mountain
2. Peaches & Herb - Shake Your Groove thing
5. Siouxsie & The Banshees - Hong Kong Garden

[editing note:  besides removing the extra carriage return between each line, #8 had "title - artist" instead of "artist - title" the rest were reported in.  With all the copy editors in this group, I don't know what's proper, I just thought it should be ordered.]

It's long been "artist - title,"  although for a while under the other host it was reversed, to my
consternation.  As it is, in recent years the header lines have deviated from the Morey Canonical
Format, which is usually something like

00/00/00 - Sunday!  Some text blah blah blah 1900!
