No request thread as of 10:15pm...
Will we get a late '60s set? Or will we get our first visit to 2004 or 2005?
ETA: AL posted the thread after midnight... 1980!
-
If the Cap'n and me (heh) each get a request played I'll consider it a major triumph.
-
pre-set: Killers, "Somebody Told Me", which I don't recall being in rotay before. Ditto No Doubt's "Bathwater" which I heard just before 6am.
-
TOTHK: Ms Benatar hits us with an LN.
-
Reagan takes over --> "Generals and Major LNs"
-
Prince, "Dirty Mind" - fairly rare and most welcome. early BOS.

Reagan takes over --> "Generals and Major LNs"
I get why we hear this so often (lots of potential for segues from various news items), but there are several other great songs on Black Sea that we never hear (Respectable Street, No Language in Our Lungs, Towers of London, Sgt. Rock). Just a little variety, that's all I ask.
BOS Prince.
-
Bill Murray lounge singer --> "Love Will Tear Us Apart". One of the truly great records of that year, but (again) far from being a rarity.
-
Points for a clever segue:
SNL Nick the lounge singer bit about Love Canal > Joy Division, Love Will Tear Us Apart.
She may have used that combo before, but it's still smile-worthy.
-
Elvis C commercial for Get Happy --> "I Can't Stand Up..." BOS2. A great LP all around.
-
BOS2 Elvis Costello & the Attractions - I Can't Stand Up (For Falling Down)
Rarity not so much, but a personal fave.
-
Pete T likes his boys "Rough". def an LN at this point, much as I loved it at the time. How people missed the gayness of it remains astounding.

Great song, but man was it short.
Pete Townshend's "coming out" LP. A great work, but not so necessary these days.
-
Olympic Hockey "miracle" --> a cover of "Israelites" by... ??
-
Miracle on ice clip > A cover of Israelites I don't think I have ever heard.
ETA: Soundhound tells me it's actually Desmond Dekker, from an album called The Stiff Singles. Did DD do a remake for Stiff in their heyday? That's what it's sounding like.
-
Miracle on ice clip > A cover of Israelites I don't think I have ever heard.
per snipeville it's Mr Dekker himself, re-doing the song for Stff Records in '80. News to me.
Oy: "Mirra inna Baffroom" is uber-LN.

That's what I determined too, via Soundhound. (See addition to previous post.) A revelation here as well.
And yeah, Mirror in the Bathroom should be retired for a year or so.
-
closest we'll get to "HAAAAY" today: Kool/Gang "Ladies Night". I'd've preferred my Teena Marie or Jermaine Jackson requests.
-
"Sonny, Sonny Sonny Sonny..." Bosom Buddies --> Rockpile "Teacher Teacher". VHM.
-

Did they? I didn't.

generally, it went unnoticed by the masses -- Pete didn't actually come out as "bisexual" (or whatever he calls himself) until later that decade. And I remember pointing it out to straight people and having them reply "what are you, crazy? Pete's not a homo!"

10@10 is mostly 70s, 80s, and 90s now. The last 60s set was a ’68 rerun on 5/20, before that ’68 again on 4/19 and ’66 on 3/15. On the other hand, we still aren’t going into 2000s much, with ’00 on 6/4, ’01 on 5/15, and none in April.

Sounds like the "sweet spot" has been moved. Yet "Honky Tonk Women" continues to come up daily in regular rotay. But the addition of "new" oldies to the rotation (see my comment earlier in this thread) seems to indicate something is afoot. Really surprised we haven't visited 2004 yet.
-
alltho' we got our share of LNs today, we at least avoided "Don't Stand So Close to Me", which someone actually requested.

from the 'get off my lawn' desk: This is a really great example of perspective. To me, this totally sounds like a joke record. Bad synth, monotonous drums, and terrible vocals. It's an 80's cliché. But, if I'm reading the comments correctly, some people genuinely like this song. No need to defend it, I know we all have our opinions, but when I was driving around this morning listening to it, it seemed like the epitome of different strokes.
