I see a pattern and I don't especially like it.
ETA: eeek -- we're getting requests for the likes of "Walk on the Ocean" and "Constant Craving"
-
Okay, I will be tuning in and taking notes today. :)
ETA: Late start today... 10:04
-
TOTHK - House Of Pain "Jump Around"
-
Ugh: House of Pain to start. White-trash Irish rap is the worst. WOS. And "McEnroe" does not rhyme with "smackin' a hoe".
-
A League Of Their Own ---> Toad The Wet Sprocket "All I Want"
-
"No crying in Baseball" --> TTWS, "All I Want", about as LN as the requested "Walk on the Ocean".
-
Ewwwww 2: Toad the Wet Sprocket, All I Want. And someone actually requested this dreck.
-
Gin Blossoms "Found Out About You"
-
the Gin Blossoms found out about LNs.
-
Peter Gabriel "Steam"
-
PG gets steamed. And we're 4-for-4, LN-wise. (granted House of Pain hasn't made *that* many appearamces but it's, um, awful)
-
the Gin Blossoms found out about LNs.
If you thought yesterday's set was disappointing...
I realize we're only three songs in, but jeez. My only hope is she's getting the crap out of the way early.
Oy. Yet another LN in the #4 slot. There were requests for a couple of decent tracks off this record (Peter Gabriel, Us). Why instead do we hear the hit?
-

With a +100, no less... >:(
-
Peter Jennings on Amy Fisher ---> Neneh Cherry featuring Michael Stipe "Trout" (!)
BOS so far
ETA: I requested "Money Love", FYI.
-
Peter Jennings on Amy Fisher ---> Neneh Cherry featuring Michael Stipe "Trout" (!)
BOS so far
indeed, best of a bad lot. I don't even like this one that much but at least it's rare.
-
Goddamn the pusher!
-
Peter Jennings on John Gotti ---> My Cousin Vinny (must have missed the clip) ---> INXS "Not Enough Time"
-
John Gotti --> My Cousin Vinny --> INXS.

BOS so far
This was originally a Big Fingers McGee & I request. It first got played way back when it was mostly just the 10@10 club making requests on AL’s page & someone from here got something played almost daily.
-
I’ll VHM INXS trying to be U2.
-
I’ll VHM INXS trying to be U2.
Ha! I hadn't thought of it that way but you're quite right.
-
Annie Lennox "Little Bird"
"I wish I had the wings to fly away from here..." Indeed. :P
-
Annie L sees a little bird. Appropriate since this set is shitting on us, for the most part.

Back in AL 1.0's glory days, pre-DC, pre-KFOX etc. FWIW, we also had more regular participants here then. Our numbers been dwindling lately, for a variety of reasons.
-
Seinfeld is the master of his domain ---> Tom Cochrane "Life Is A Highway"
Highway to LNs?
-

Another song from the heyday of AAA radio, aka 1992. It sounded kind of fresh and grown-up at the time, but jeez does it sound tired now.
Something tells me my request ain't making again today.
-
Goddamn the pusher!
http://www.whosampled.com/sample/9072/Neneh-Cherry-Michael-Stipe-Trout-Steppenwolf-The-Pusher/
-
Dear lord: "Life is a Highway", an LN-supreme. (esp since the Rascall Flatts version has been ubiquitous ever since Cars).
-
Goddamn the pusher!

thanks, I never noticed the sample! Makes it even more of a BOS, actually.
-
I'll give a BOS to "The Contest". Definitely one of the funniest things I've seen on TV.
-
No, Don Pardo, it's NOT big fun. It's LN City. Soup Dragons, one that was a delight the first 10 times it appeared.
-
Don Pardo says it's big fun ---> The Soup Dragons "Divine Thing"
ETA: Six of the nine tracks so far have shown up on KFOG's TuneGenie playlist.
-
1 half-@$$ed “hay”
1 snoozy rarity
7 overplayed LNs
Is DC back?
-

indeed, they were on fire. AL's nod to Jerry's recent "get off my lawn" ravings, I guess
-
Will AL save the best for last with my Vanessa Williams request?
ETA: Nope, but Dan Baird "I Love You Period" is the best of a bad lot today.
-
Wayne's World --> "I Love You Period", Dan Baird -- an actual bustout. NTM but BOS2.
ETA: ah, he's the Georgia Satellites guy. Got to #28, making him a One-Hit Wonder twice.
-

urth gets his request! BOS
-
Something tells me my request ain't making again today.
Oh me of little faith. BOS I Love You Period.
Sort of a countrified "Hot for Teacher."
ETA: This album (Love Songs for the Hearing Impaired) and its followup, Buffalo Nickel, are both great records, both extensions of what the Georgia Satellites started out doing but just as exuberant.
-
Wow, AL even gave urth a shout out! :)
ETA: AL, you should have played Kris Kross instead. :P
-
Ooh, this one is kinda interesting and also NTM. I’ll give it a BOS.
-

I didn't catch the shoutout. What did she say?

"Shot out to Jim H.!" (for the Dan Baird request)
-

ETA: AL, you should have played Kris Kross instead. :P
I didn't catch the shoutout. What did she say?
Just that she was playing a number of requests today and this was a "one from a longtime foghead, Jim H" or something like that.
-
Something tells me my request ain't making again today.
Oh me of little faith. BOS I Love You Period.
Not to be confused with Marilyn Manson's "I Love You When You're on Your Period"

Hey! Congrats on the request/shoutout. Gave this set something to mark it by. Yeah, it was full of songs that were once interesting to listen to... "Trout" is sorta-hay, but it's been on a few times before.
-
Wayne's World --> "I Love You Period", Dan Baird -- an actual bustout. NTM but BOS2.
ETA: ah, he's the Georgia Satellites guy. Got to #28, making him a One-Hit Wonder twice.
And you've got me thinking about what other "dual" one hit wonders there are... The only one that comes to mind is Kajagoogoo/Limahl

we heard TWO others today: Everlast (House of Pain and solo) and Tom Cochrane (Red Rider and solo)
also Janis (solo and with Big Brother); Ian Matthews (Matthews Southern Comfort and solo); Sylvia Robinson (as Sylvia and with Mickey & Sylvia); and of course the Nuge (Amboy Dukes and solo). The criteria here is a Billboard Top 40 single.
and the king is a guy who did it FIVE times, per Wiki:
British singer Tony Burrows may be the most prolific "one-hit wonder" — he sang lead vocals on five singular hits for five groups in the United States:
"United We Stand", The Brotherhood of Man, No. 13 (January 1970) (note that a different group also known as the Brotherhood of Man later charted with "Save Your Kisses for Me" in 1976, but that group had no personnel in common with the group led by Burrows)
"Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)", Edison Lighthouse, No. 5 (April 1970)
"My Baby Loves Lovin'", White Plains, No. 13 (July 1970)
"Gimme Dat Ding", The Pipkins, No. 9 (July 1970)
"Beach Baby", The First Class, No. 4 (October 1974)
-
The criteria here is a Billboard Top 40 single.
Which is a very important one - if one uses R-n-R, Cochrane wouldn't qualify ("Washed Away"), and House Of Pain wouldn't have charted.
An all-Tony Burrows set would cause Snipeland to self-destruct.
-
An all-Tony Burrows set would cause Snipeland to self-destruct.
I would LOVE it if she played Brotherhood of Man, Edison Lighthouse, White Plains, and The Pipkins in the same 1970 set.
-

I would LOVE it if she played Brotherhood of Man, Edison Lighthouse, White Plains, and The Pipkins in the same 1970 set.
But those are phoney-baloney studio groups, not actual bands. So I'm voting him off the island.

Said set with shout out is now uploaded on Mixcloud.
