Our last '88 visit was 2 months ago, an it was an "encore" from last August:

Quote
1.  Rick Astley- Never Gonna Give You Up
   2.  R.E.M.- Pop Song '89
(News: VP Debate "You're no Jack Kennedy..")
   3.  The Pixies- Where Is My Mind
   4.  The Smithereens- Only a Memory
(News: Dan Quayle "the future will be better tomorrow")
   5.  Neil Young & The Blue Notes- Ten Men Working
   6.  U2/BB King- When Love Comes to Town
(Movie: A Fish Called Wanda- "Speak to me in Italian..yes! yes!")
   7.  Sinead O'Connor- I Want Your Hands On Me
(Movie: Working Girl "I have a head for business and a bod for sin")
   8.  Morrissey- Every Day Is Like Sunday
(News: American hostages in Syria)
   9.  Leonard Cohen- Everybody Knows
(TV: SNL- The Church Lady)
 10.  Bobby McFerrin- Don't Worry Be Happy (B.O.S!)

If we manage to avoid all of these that will be a victory.

"Are you a Heather?" --> no, a Sinead. or a "Mandinka". A well-worn TOTHK to start.

is a Mandinka the female equivalent of a Mandingo?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!  uber-uber-LN and all-time Moreytrina, "Wishing Well"

The first two were, I believe, released on album in 1987, so AL may be thumbing her nose at the dude on FB who was needlessly nitpicking the dates of a couple of requests and a song played on the air the other day.

I requested Erasure, but the other big single from this album. Oh well. This is a great song, too, and made for a clever segue from the previous political clip.

The consensus at my college radio station, where I dj'ed in the late '80's, hated the pop side of college rock. I guess I went along most of the time, but I always liked this song.

Most definitely. Props to the good captain for requesting this.

There's a cover by a country act whose name escapes me which is also fantastic. Or maybe Fairground Attraction's version is the cover.

1998 was the year of the rock ballad, though (with heavily reverbed acoustic guitars).

Re Bull Durham, Ron Shelton is an overrated hack.

Bull Durham is an all-time-fave of mine; his sports movies generally, I like (Tin Cup, White Guys Can't Jump). His other stuff is hit-and-miss

somewhat surprising, I must say.  It's something of an AL FF, but Id've preferred it to "Wishing Well" or "The Flame".

I've been having some good luck with AL playing my '88 requests:

Lita Ford "Kiss Me Deadly"
Robyn Hitchcock & The Egyptians "Balloon Man"
Fairground Attraction "Perfect"

For a second there, I thought she might play my request for Brenda Russell's "Piano In The Dark".

Hope you think that my requests at least perk the sets up a little!
