BOS3: Grass Roots, "Where Were You When I Needed You?" The lead singer is really trying to sound like Roger McGuinnn, methinks.

I'm not sure when I've ever heard  this on the radio.  One of my favorite  songs.

Then on to the Grassroots in Dylan drag

Chuck Eddy and I were just talking about that song on Friday.  He claims it's about date rape; I just think it's about a serial -- and unapologetic -- philanderer.  What say ye?

Meantime, sounds like I missed a goodie; BOS to "Caroline, No."  There has never been a bad song written with "Caroline" in its title.  Proven By Science!

I'm with you. And considering Mr Christie is (allegedly) family, I'm sure it was a subject to which he could relate. Now, "Rhapsody in the Rain"... that's a whole 'nuther story...

Oh damn, this is better than I remember it.  I think it's a sign of maturity that I appreciate Bacharach so much better lately.

Have you ever heard the Manfred Mann original? I never have. Guess I need to track down the What's New Pussycat? sndtk.

Hard to believe Manfred Mann's version came out before Love's version.  But there it is:
"original version by Manfred Mann, What's New Pussycat (Original Soundtrack) (United Artists 5218, July 1965)"

PS, I listened to a snippet online, and it contains none of the proto-punk energy of the Love version; it's like a different song, but it's not of course.

Of course, Love's later stuff didn't contain much "proto-punk energy" either, good as it was.
