'90s twice in a week. The good times are gone.

I should've written:
Love my 90's when they're not being held to the AAA format Or something more colorful.
-
pointless request:
Imani Coppola - Legend of a Cowgirl

Imani Coppola - Legend of a Cowgirl
I think I've requested that in the past. For what it is, not half bad.
-
Some interesting requests on FB that will never be played (Usher? ha! as if). I'm gonna assume this will be an FF-fest and as such I'm going to avoid today.

My expectations for 10at10 are always low. Nothing that extraordinary really ever gets played. What can a DJ do in corporate radio? I might listen to 97 and be entertained and surprised, because I probably won't know a good portion of the music that well. For any year up until the mid-80s, it's usually FF and LN City.

well, we had a brief window recently where AL seemed to have more breathing room and was playing more interesting bustouts. I suspected it had something to do with trying to capitalize on K-Fox's SF simulcast going away. But nobody (not KFOG, not the Bone, not Live 105) seems to have benefitted from the K-Fox shift. So I guess Cumulus is panicking.

Again I won't be able to tune in for the live broadcast, so take notes!

What's the simulcast of which you speak?
-
I'll give a BOS for Cornershop, though this song strikes me as kind of dull today.
-
1. Blur Song 2
2. Squirrel Nut Zippers, Hell
3. Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Impresssion that I get
4. Cornershop, Brimful of Asha
Did I miss one?

Wow - I was gonna predict uber-FFs like Blur and MMBs but I didn't want to appear too cynical. BOS Cornershop, tho'.
-
Dunno, I tuned in late. HM for Radiohead, but certainly no surprise.
-
5. ?? (spaced out, missed it)
6. Radiohead, Karma Police
-
BOS for the Cure (never thought I'd say that), but I've never heard this "Wrong Number" song, and it's not wimpy.
-

K-Fox, which is 98.5 in San Jose, had a SF simulcast on 102.1 for a couple of years -- the owners thought they were gonna give The Bone a run for their money, and that's why they hired AL when they did. But they gave up on that and it's now some sort of urban Top 40 thing. So their SF audience should've gone somewhere else but nobody can figure out why KFOG and the Bone didn't pick up listeners.

7. The Cure, Wrong Number
8. Stones, Anybody Seen My BabyzzzzzZZZZZZ
-
8. Stones, Anybody Seen My BabyzzzzzZZZZZZ
is that the "Constant Craving" one? all '90s Stones are a big blur to me.
-
9. BFF, Battle of Who Could Care Less

That's the one. ZZZZ song.
I'll give a BOS for Ben Folds and his 4 (not really) friends. Nice tie-in back to the Cure song.

Yep. Bridges to Babylon was possibly the most underwhelming Stones album ever.
-
9. BFF, Battle of Who Could Care Less
wow -- this one's a bustout that I requested multiple times in the past. Kudos and BOS2. I think Cap'n Jack may have requested this last nite. The Cure tune is a bustout too, methinks.
-
10. Cardigans, Lovefool.
Other than the Cornershop and BFF, kinda meh.

yeah, it seems to be the template now: 7 or 8 uninspired tunes and 2 or 3 bustout/rarities.
-
5. ?? (spaced out, missed it)
6. Radiohead, Karma Police
Oh, and #5 was Lisa Loeb, I Do (I think).

For a peppier version, check out Fatboy Slim's remix. It's like having your nads dipped into liquid cocaine!

And despite its being the #1 FF in 1997 sets.... the Bosstones' tune wins BOS, in a tie with Cornershop. (Per AL on FB)

Yes, I did request BFF.

9. BFF, Battle of Who Could Care Less
BOS to this
VHM to Cornershop
HM to the Stones (I would say it's only tangentially similar to "Constant Craving".

Yes, I did request BFF.
Interestingly, this makes the 8th song from my 1997 wish-list to actually get played, which I think is the most in any year. Who'd'a thunk?

Eh . . . maybe liquid NoDoz

Imani Coppola - Legend of a Cowgirl

Well, it's the MTV hit. Based on that and a brief clip of her performing on one of those PBS concert
shows, I bought the CD. I really like about half of it, and the rest has not made an impression
on me one way or the other.

Which reminds me... AL has played 4 of my requests this month (one from '96; two (!) from '88; and one from '97) -- hmmm, AL's taking my requests from late '80s / '90s.
