AL hasn't posted anything on FB yet. Will we get a '90s set?
-
Prediction: 1979
-
Hmmm, AL was on FB updated some things, but she didn't post a request thread.
-
Request threads a alot of work and time-spent reading, commenting etc. I can't blame her for not doing it every night.
I'll be (once again) indisposed today, so a '90s set would be welcome :)
-
Did "Elvis Is Everywhere" get edited on purpose? The whole Michael J Fox and Joan Rivers parts seem to have been excised.
ETA: Another skip. Maybe I'm just having stream trouble.
-
per fb:
9/18/14 Thursday 1987
1. Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper - Elvis is Everywhere
2. John Hiatt - Memphis in the Meantime
-
She’s very Americana this morning.
-
fb says:
3. Lyle Lovett - M-O-N-E-Y
4. Steve Miller Band - Make the World Turn Around
5. Lone Justice - Shelter
6. David Bowie - Never Let Me Down
-
I'm getting threatening emails from KFOG:
"See Train Twice In One Day!"
Nooooooooooooo!!!!!
-
Is this Lemonheads doing "Alone Again Or"?
ETA: I see it's the Damned. Interesting.
-
And it ended so tunefully with children by the millions dancing for Alex Chilton, the Mats. No bustout but always great to hear. (I think the Bowie might be our best chance at a bustout today.)
-
sounds kinda "meh" to me (tho' I do like that Steve Miller tune). Coulda used some pop cheeze, methinks. Third set I've missed this week and I'm not really sorry about any of 'em.
ETA: Just now seeing the complete list -- apparently we got some MJ, "The Way You Make Me Feel", which is certainly BOS-worthy.
-
Prediction: 1979
I suspect your prediction will come true tomorrow, if the current pattern holds.
I wonder of we'll get a set of songs with "Train" in the title on Monday, in honor of Train's local appearances. :P

Drat! The only song I heard in the 10 o'clock hour was 1979's Let's Go by The Cars right at 10. I thought I had nailed the year, then I was going to triumphantly proclaim Friday as the day of 1987. Besides '79, the other possibilities tomorrow are '71, some zany theme set (Train!), or [gasp] the breaking of a months-long pattern. Though said pattern has been entirely predictable, pinning the right year to the exact day remains elusive.

I obviously missed this, but what is the months-long pattern?

generally, each week it's 2 '70s years, 2 '80s years and one from either '60s, '90s or '00s. Theme sets (I think) take the place of one of the '80s. Tomorrow will tell. And based on length of time since last visit... '79 is a good guess.
looking at the other 10@10s... KFOG remains the only rock station that does '00s sets... The Drive and The Sound have '89 as their cutoff, it seems, and The Peak goes as far as 1999.
-
Perhaps a train-themed set could include the Quad City DJ's doing "C'mon And Ride (The Train)".
We can hope, I think.
I wonder if in the case Train wasn't played so damn much if the 10@10/GS community would have such revulsion about them. I tend to think not.

2. John Hiatt - Memphis in the Meantime
One of my favorite Hiatt tunes. He seems to capture my frustration with KFOG's shift towards
the singer-songwriter genre and softer rock:
"Sure I like country music and I like mandolins,
But right now I need a telecaster through a Vibrolux turned up to ten"
and
"'Cause one more heartfelt steel guitar chord -- girl, it's gonna do me in
I need to hear some trumpet and saxophone, you know sound as sweet as sin"

Hiatt is very near the top of my personal list of Guilty Displeasures.
