thread's up.
At least it's been 2 months since the last one. :)
-
King Crimson - Man with an Open Heart
-
The formula is 2 '80's, 2 '70's, and 1 from '67-'69/'90-'03 every week. Look at the last few weeks. If there's a theme set, one of the '80's drops out.
This has already been deduced, but I'll point out again that pop/soft rock fills in the gap in years prior to the defining of KFOG's AAA format.
-
Middle of the Road is a 1984 song playing right before a 1984 10 at 10? Now that there is just wrong.
ETA: I guess the single was released in late '83.
-
Tina Turner, Better Be Good to Me is the TOTHK.
-
Tina Turner, "You Bettah Be Good to Me" TOTHK. BOS1 from me, something of an AL fave.
-
Ferraro accepts nomination --> Scandal, "The Wah-wee-uh". LN1 from me, tho' I suspect we probably haven't heard it in a while.
-
"Shootin' at the walls of heartache, bang bang
I am THE WARRIOR"
by Scandal, fronted by Patty Smyth (not Smith)
-
Thompson Twins, You Take Me Up
These first 3 songs fall right in line with the recent 10 at 10 easy listenin' trend.
-
Caught the end of Scandal featuring Patty Smyth "The Warrior"
Apple's Macintosh ---> Thompson Twins "You Take Me Up"
-
Apple mac "1984" commercial --> Thompson Twins with a nice rarity "Take Me Up". BOS2FRA.
-
Sally Field "You like me!" --> Icicle Works, Whisper to a Scream (Birds Fly) — U.S. version
-
You like her! Sally Field --> "Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream)"
-
R.E.M., Harborcoat
Great song, brings back a lot of memories. We do seem to hear a track from Reckoning in every '84 set, though.
-
wow, another BOSFRA from REM: "Harborcoat"
-
Smiths, "What Difference..." BOS4.
-
Smiths, "What Difference..." BOS4.
Good energy from the Smiths. Not unlike "Harborcoat".
-
The Bross, Bobby Jean
-
Repo Man --> Brooooooooooce, "Bobby Jean" BOS5.
-
Repo Man! Love that movie.
Now if she'd through in a Buckaroo Banzai clip, you'd really have something.
"No no, don't tug on that. You never know what it might be attached to."
-
The Bross, Bobby Jean
She's playing one of my requests?
-
wow, another BOSFRA from REM: "Harborcoat"
I’ll BOS this, simply because it’s not part of their 25-year block of releasing the same song over and over again.
-
Cyndi Lauper, She Bop
-
Ghostbusters --> "She Bop"! BOS6. This is turning out rather nicely IMHO. Something of an intermittent "female empowerment" theme today.
-
The Bross, Bobby Jean
She's playing one of my requests?
Yes
-
more Ghostbusters "He slimed me!" -- actual "Ghostbusters" theme, Ray Parker.
-
More Ghostbusters movie --> Ray Parker, Jr., Ghostbusters
-
more Ghostbusters "He slimed me!" -- actual "Ghostbusters" theme, Ray Parker.
I want a new...oh wait...
Not a bad set so far, dug the Bobby Jean/She Bop duet the most.

I like this song a lot better than Huey's.
-
Killing Joke, Eighties
-
still more Ghostbusters -- Killing Joke, "Eighties"
-
See, she seems a lot more invested in this backsell: more oneliners, more giggles, and overall a better set. Not a coincidence.

I don't get it. Is there a belief that she's only programming certain years? What did I miss?

My comment today was just a follow-on to this thread from the 2001 set a couple of days ago:
Tell me if you think I'm overstating, but I think this might be the worst 10 at 10 of all time. Other ones I remember getting very negative reviews are Renee's first outing, 1968, and a Giants Opening Day (or world series win?) set.
Well, I'm not particularly offended by this one, with at least three songs I've never heard before: Spoon, Enya and this Eyes Wide song. Some boring stuff, but not bad.
Is it me or does AL sound a little less engaged than usual during the backsell?
Agreed; I think it's because she was probably only given one or two songs to choose today, with veto power held over those.

So... KFOG is changing its theme song from the Stray Cats' Rock This Town to the Sominex jingle?
